February Recruiting News and Notes

Clemson is the leader for 4* WR prospect James Robinson (6-3 195) but Florida is expected to make a push. According to GatorCountry.com, Florida recruiter Torrian Gray "will put the full course pressure on him." Robinson was on record saying that a commitment has crossed his mind but he'll wait until he is 100% sure. This will be be one to watch this year as Robinson will visit Florida soon.
IMG Academy LB Jordan Anthony visited Clemson for a game last year and plans to make another trip up to Death Valley this fall. When asked about his stop at Clemson last year Anthony stated, "That was a 10 in my book." Other schools he's looking to visit include Miami, Oklahoma, Auburn, Ohio State and Florida.
Clemson and Florida are both at the top for DE Zach Carter (6-5 240) of Tampa, FL. He visited Clemson last month and Florida last Saturday. Carter is currently the #4 DE on my board and occupies the 47th overall spot.
In an interview with Scout.com, IMG Academy WR Emmanuel Greene (5-10 160) stated he's been looking to take spring visits to Ohio State, Clemson, Louisville, Cincinnati, Tennessee and West Virginia. Greene is also looking to shop some of the instate Florida schools as well.
CB Trajan Bandy (5-10 180) has given a verbal to Oklahoma. Bandy visited Death Valley last season for the Clemson vs FSU game and wore a Clemson visor to last months South Florida Express tryouts.
In an interview with AL.com, defensive back Malcolm Askew said Auburn was "at the top right now." He mentioned that his top group consist of Auburn, Clemson, Bama, Florida and Ole Miss. Askew plans to announce this summer and enroll early at the school of his choice.
DL Eric Crosby (6-3 290) will announce on April 22nd and has a favorites list of NC State, Tennessee, Va Tech, Bama and Clemson. Crosby is ranked as my #7 DT and 118 overall.
Clemson commit Amari Rodgers amassed a whopping 2,511 all-purpose yards with 31 total touchdowns last season. As a receiver he totaled 1,570 yards and 23 touchdowns. He wishes to enroll early, does not plan on taking any other visits, has been selected to the US Army Bowl and is actively recruiting other prospects to Clemson.
One elite prospect that Rodgers is trying to lure to Clemson is ATH Devon Hunter (6-3 210) of Chesapeake, Virginia. Hunter attended Clemson's Junior Day and will see Florida and Virginia Tech later this spring. He also visited UNC for their hoops game against Duke.
Another to keep an eye on is RB Cordarrian Richardson (5-11 220) of Memphis, Tennessee. Last season he rushed for 2,390 yards with 18 TDs on the ground but also had 4 TDs on special teams. 247s composite ratings have Richardson as the #11 RB overall.
Not to be overlooked is Rodgers close friend Tee Higgins (6-4 190) of Oak Ridge , TN. Higgins is rated as one of the top WRs in this class- #1 by 247sports, #5 by ESPN and #7 by Rivals. He also plays basketball and his Oak Ridge team (29-2) recently bested Fulton 81-31 in front of 3,000 fans. Higgins pulled down a game high 11 rebounds and added 15 points. Playing two sports in college is certainly a possibility for the outstanding athlete.
According to Georgia commit Richard LeCounte, the Dawgs have "three or four silent commitments." Very interesting to say the least.
Highly rated 2017 OL Isaiah Wilson has given a Top 5 of Bama, Michigan, Georgia, Ohio State and LSU- in no order. Wilson visited Clemson last summer.
From The Sumter Item on Clemson commit Blake Vinson; "Vinson said he’s equally effective in run and pass blocking and did not allow a sack or a tackle behind the line of scrimmage last season. He said the Clemson coaches love his versatility as an OL."
LB Markail Benton (6-2 227) of Phenix City, Alabama has given a top ten of Bama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, FSU, Georgia, Miami, Miss State, Ole Miss and South Carolina. Benton is the 4th overall LB and 41st overall on my board.
Clemson OL commit Matt Bockhorst gets it; “They understand that playing college football is not just about getting to the NFL, because if you look at statistics that is a very small minority. But the degree from Clemson and the tools for life that they instill in you is what is going to set you up to be a better father, husband, businessman, etc. Clemson has it going on.”
DE Robert Beal recently decommitted from Notre Dame and announced a Top 5 in order of Texas, FSU, NC State, Bama and South Carolina. He visited FSU last weekend and will see Bama next weekend.
Elite safety Cyrus Fagan (6-1 175) of Daytona Beach attended Clemson's Junior Day last month. He was recently named 'Alpha Dog' by 247sports for his performance at a Florida 7 on 7 event. "The 6-foot-1, 170-pound ballhawk was an eraser on the back end of the defense coming up with a pair of interceptions and even more pass break ups." Florida State, Florida, Tennessee, Alabama and Clemson remain key players for his services.
In an interview with Scout.com, Fagan spoke very highly of his Clemson junior day experience. "They brought me in and treated me like family like how it was supposed to be, so it felt wonderful being up there. I don't want to say they came out of nowhere, but I like how they kept piquing last year." Predictions
Looking for someone who could possibly soar in the recruiting rankings? Try DE/DT LaBryan Ray (6-5 280) of Madison, AL who received high praise for his efforts at the US Army Bowl Combine. He is currently unranked by both Rivals and ESPN and is also outside of 247's Top 500 prospects.
RB Bryant Koback has been getting some attention lately for his efforts at the US Army Combine last month. Koback (5-11 195) ripped off a speedy 4.35 forty yard dash and a 9'7" broad jump. He ran for over 2000 yards with 31 rushing TDs in 2015. Kentucky has received a verbal commit from him.
One shouldn't be surprised if LB Tadarian Moultry (6-2 225) makes a leap in some folks rankings. The offers are finally starting to pile up for him after some impressive camp showings. He's known for his aggressive hitting and physicality but he'll need to work on his coverage skills. Moultry has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson and others.
Random Notes
Florida Gator QB Chris Leake has been hired to coach Edgewater High School in Orlando. Additionally, Miami Jackson Senior High has hired the first female head coach in Florida high school history. Lakatriona Brunson, star of the reality TV show South Beach Tow, is a former physical education teacher who has been selected to lead the Generals next season.
Dorman High School will travel to Alabama to face Bob Jones High on August 19th this year. The Patriots, who finished 9-2 last season, will play at Dorman the following year. In seven seasons under coach Kevin Rose they are 66-17.
WR Trey Quinn has announced he'll be transferring out of LSU after this semester. Quinn, a former 4* Clemson prospect, saw limited action the past two season in Baton Rouge after a lustrous high school career. His 6,566 receiving yards are a national high school record. LSU has blocked him from transferring to any SEC school.
ACC News and Notes
Nothing wrong with taking a little jab at ones rival and that's just what Florida State did on Valentines Day via Twitter. "Garnet not orange, gold not blue, we beat the Gators 27 to 2." https://twitter.com/FSU_Football/status/698938070931009537/
The Seminoles recently picked up a verbal from massive DT Cory Durden (6-4 310). Other four-star prospects who have given FSU a verbal include WR DJ Matthews (6-0 170), LB VanDarius Cowan (6-3 220), DT Ja'len Parks (6-4 300) and RB Zaquandre White (6-0 200).
Penn State and Pittsburgh will renew their rivalry on September 10th at Heinz Field but things are getting interesting between the two teams on the recruiting trail. Pitt landed an outstanding 2016 prospect when elite CB Damar Hamlin (6-1 180) gave the Panthers a commit over Ohio State and Penn State. Hamlin will likely see early, if not immediate, playing time as he'll not only compete for a starting CB spot but could also contribute on offense and special teams.
Pitt was also able to flip rangy Penn State ATH commit Aaron Matthews (6-5 195). Matthews, a three-star prospect, passed for 29 TDs and 3 INTs last year while also rushing for 9 scores on the ground. He also recorded 60 tackles- 20 for a loss and 8 sacks. The battle for Pennslyvania talent should also heat up this year as the two rivals will vie for the talents of DE Donovan Jeter (6-5 260), LB David Adams (6-2 225) and OL CJ Thorpe (6-4 300).
One area of improvement that Georgia Tech will be focusing on this offseason is its pass rush. In a rare move, Georgia Tech accepted junior college transfer Desmond Branch (6-3 315) of Trinity Valley Community College. Branch is rated as a top ten juco defensive end.
Miami has began a pipeline with a local high school as they've signed three prospects from Miami Southridge. Four-star WR Kemore Gamble, RB Bentavious Thompson and DB Billy Gibson Jr. have all given verbal commits to the Hurricanes.

Aliens. They put this stuff out anonymously 'cause they don't want people to catch on to their 'mystery, do they exist or not' gig. Sorta gives them credibility if you think about it.

@ dchinners In regards to Zamir White, I'd have to say he appears to be one heck of a prospect with a very high ceiling. We are seemingly in great position with him but others are lurking. The offers are pouring in for him at this time and others are saying what TigerNet has been screaming for a while in relation to his elite talent. Our 2018 RB class would be amazing should we land White and Devon Lawrence (Dexter's little brother). There are others out there but at this time I'd be thrilled with those two.
Thanks @ CUTigerDave for noting the comical typo. +1 It happens but nonetheless it was indeed a rather funny one. Like they say, if ya can't laugh at yourself...
@ wueagle86 I have absolutely no problem with folks using stuff from these post as I find it very complimentary. +1- One of the reasons I started these post is because there are many who, like me, enjoy following the recruiting trail and have interest in what's next.
@ Uncle Bill, @ WS Tiger, @ Tiger5, @ SOLOS, @ TigerHawk76, @ GoPaws4, @ CUYankee- thanks to you folks for the encouraging words and TU for you all. I think I'll stick to a monthly post for a while as a daily or weekly one could be a bit much. I like this "cliffs notes" version of it and think it helps condense it all so that the average fan can be up-to-date with what's going on. Trying to keep up everyday can be a tad much.
@ MyFavOrange I can't wait til your boy shows up on these recruiting post. Then I actually will have an inside track for once- that I can speak of publicly, LOL.

Saw this today:
James Robinson 2017 Wide Receiver, Lakeland, Fla. The nation’s No. 7 wide receiver by 247Sports.com Composite Rankings. Robinson said Clemson leads. He’s working on planning a date in March to publicly announce. He’s planning to visit Florida for a spring practice.

We'll know more after his trip to Gainesville but

One of the Gator coaches, Torrian Gray, is from the Lakeland area so I'm sure they'll try to use that to their advantage. Plus, Gator WR coach Kerry Dixon is on him hard- as they bonded at the annual 'Florida Gator Friday Night Lights' thing and expanded upon a prior friendship. The Gators will likely throw out everything they can to land Robinson- but will it be enough?
Here's a good sign from a few weeks ago... “Right now Clemson leads for me. It’s the relationship with the coaches right now, me and Coach [Jeff] Scott have a good bond.”
On a side note, Torrian Gray went to Va Tech and you can bet that the Gators will try and reopen the pipeline to the 757 area where Gray used to recruit for the Hokies. You can bet they'll go after DE Jordan Williams for sure. I also wouldn't be surprised if they go after RB Khalan Laborn. Plus we'll probably have to fend off Florida, FSU and Va Tech for Devon Hunter as well.

Thanks for the update TigerBry, always excellent intel.
How would you rate 2018 RB target Zamir White, and are we in good position there? Is he as good as say a Gurley or Dalvin Cook? His film looks ridiculous.
