It's not Stoudt vs Kelly
Apr 4, 2014, 11:37 AM

It's Kelly vs Watson.
If Kelly gets the starting job, Watson doesn't play until his RS Junior year.
No way in haitis does Watson sit that long. He'll transfer.
So, if Cole Stoudt wins the starting QB position this year. Kelly will probably look to transfer and D Watson becomes the backup followed by Shusseler.
What say you?

us the best chance to win as long as the game is on the line. Now, they may feel that playing two QBs based on the situation or to make it hard for defenses to prepare gives us the best chance. Make no mistake, however, at no time will the coaches place a player's ego or desire to play above the good of the team. In other words, they won't play or start a guy just because he threatens to transfer out, or just to keep one happy. I'm sure they are very well aware of what is going on the head's of the QB candidates, and will make very effort to accommodate them in a way that is not detrimental to the team.

Like how they did with Harper and Ellington. That was a pretty successful season. Either way, I have 100% blind faith in Dabo to do exactly the right thing. And by that I mean whatever he chooses is the correct choice.

A couple of things you're leaving out of the equation:

(1) injuries, and (2) What if Kelly goes pro after his jr year? Then DW would start as a RS So.

Kelly transferring would only make sense for him
Apr 4, 2014, 12:09 PM
|

if it occurs before this season begins. He's already redshirted, so leaving after this season, would just be a year of eligibility lost. If he transfers before this season, he could potentially start at his new school his RS JR/RS SR seasons. However, if he stays for this season, he'd only get to play 1 year at his new school.
Even if he's not the starter, he'd be better off being the back-up here for his RS SO and RS JR seasons, graduating in December of his JR year, and then being able to play immediately at another school as a SR/grad student with a QB opening.

We have like 10 or 11 WRs. I wouldn't be so quick to say that the position is being neglected.

I'm not saying we have too many or anything. I just don't feel like it is being neglected or that the position is an afterthought.
I do feel as though Williams and Peake are going to be phenoms. I saw Williams play against my old high school his senior year. He was a man.
But Peake will probably be the main guy.

There's no saving Cleveland. Even Lebron realized that and left that dump of a city. They are series about professional sports in Ohio.

I half way agree with you.
If Stoudt starts look for Kelly to transfer.
If Kelly starts, look for him to transfer to a 1AA (or whatever they call it) next yr.
Watsonville not sit for three yrs behind Kelly. Regardless, stoudt or Kelly this year, Watson is the guy for 2015, 16, and maybe 17, & 18.
So, here is how I see it. The coaches continue to hype the "QB battle" all the way in to Aug. this keeps Kelly in Clemson, and Georgia in the dark. Stoudt starts, Kelly is #2, and Watson red shirts unless something happens to Stoudt. If they have to burn his redshirt yr, he will play.
And they will NOT use a 2 QB system. Any decent coach knows the best way to destroy a team is to be wishy-washy on your QB. Stoudt starts, and is "THE" #1 just like Tajh. You won't see Kelly any sooner than you saw Cole last year. And here is why:
You have to look big picture. Watson is the future. This year a "QB controversy is ok, cuz you got a guy like Stoudt". You do not want a QB controversy next year. It's Watson.......period. The kid is special. Really special.
Sorry for the long dissertation, but.......it does make sense.

My point was to suggest.....strongly.....that I really do trust the coaches have thought this out..... And I trust they know exactly what they are doing..... And they are doing and saying what they need to with the present and future in mind. 2014 is Cole's yr. the next 3 belong to Watson. Who will break at some point put us in the final 4. And that does not mean we won't be this yr.

it all figured out. We going to line up 6 on the line with one being tightend. 2 wideouts, to give us 3 receiving threats. That leaves 3 position spots left. They will comprise of a tailback and 2 qb's. I say we are going to run a power run game with a new unorthodox 2 qb's at one time system. BOOM!!!

I agree Cole has a good arm and he's not a bad QB, put you all want to see him start based on a nice little run he had on SC State last season. I love the guy but he's not the QB to take us all the way. The only reason Kelly wasn't back up is he got hurt.

its just speculation as of right now. And that's what these forums are for. For giving opinions. Unforunately, the coaches don't always make the right decision. But you have to think they would in most cases. For me, I think Watson/Kelly makes the most sense LONG TERM. And I know a lot of you really like Stoudt- some seem even afraid to say something negative. But you have to do whats right for the team and program. As for me, the defense should be as good as its been in a few years, and so should the running game. That should allow for someone like Watson, for example. To work his way into the flow. Personally, I just think Cole is more valuable coming off the bench....if we need him. So in the end, I have to agree with you. It may not, but the battle should...SHOULD come down to...
WATSON/KELLY #21
