My view:

1. Of course the ACC is gonna stand pat. There is nobody to add (ND ain't coming in) that would increase revenue.

2. The best they can hope for is that nobody leaves.

3. So, the position of the ACC is this: We are standing pat until somebody leaves. Then after we see which team or teams are leaving, we'll quit standing pat.

The ACC is standing pat, not because they want to, but because they have no other reasonable alternative at this point in time.

Adelson and Hale....

.....lol....those two... SMDH. ACC propaganda at its finest.

Bretfsu---I agree with you. To clarify, the ACC is NOT in a good position, nor will they be going forward barring a miracle. The ACC is standing pat b/c they have no good options. It's not like they have a choice.

as time passes the options will get worse and worse for the ACC. Sitting idle is a path to self destruction.

Also adding another team would mean re-negotiating their TV contracts and might mean breaking the current Grant of Rights which they do not want.

“ So many questions, in fact, that multiple schools have been sending their legal counsels to league headquarters in Greensboro, North Carolina, where there is a copy of the current grant of rights, to read and review it. Some schools are doing it as a way to perhaps see whether there is any way to challenge the grant of rights in court. Some schools are doing it to perhaps reassure themselves that the language is as ironclad as many believe it to be.”

Does this mean the individual schools don’t have a copy of the GOR? They need to trek to Greensboro to read it like going to the National Archives to see the original Declaration of Independence under glass?

If there’s only one copy, I suggest Neff go visit the document with a match hidden in his pocket.

At a minimum you’d think someone could fax it.

And 10 of the member institutions are public, so one would think an intrepid news organization would have FOIA’d this puppy. All I’ve ever seen is the 2013 version, not the 2016 one when they re-upped as a condition of getting ESPN to launch ACCN.

There’s so much speculation among the media and fans alike that none of us have read.

Lol! I was thinking the same.

Don’t we have a copy in the Strom Thurmond Institute somewhere for our scholars to review with white gloves??

That statement made zero sense. Every school that is bound by the document has a copy (several) of it.

Re: ESPN: ACC standing pat, for now, amid the chaos of college

Jul 23, 2022, 12:04 AM

Not so sure. If copies were sent to public schools they would be subject to FOIA requests. Considering not a single reporter has been successful in obtaining a copy of the 2016 agreement suggests the schools do not have the GOR in their possession. It really makes one wonder what is in there that the ACC/ESPN obviously don’t want made public.

"People talked about Oklahoma and Texas leaving immediately. I think that's pretty well-stated now that that's not the case. They're going to wait until their grants of rights is over.

"Listening to UCLA and USC they clearly are going to stay in the Pac-12 until their grant of rights is over. So you can follow the logic there. I would think that the significance of what that would mean, the television rights that the conference owns as well as a nine-figure financial penalty, I think it holds..."

Sounds like he believes the ACC GOR will hold and nobody goes anywhere.

I think he is saying if teams are not buying out of a conference where the GOR runs out in a few years where it is relatively unexpensive he doubts ACC teams will pay the big money to get out of our crazy 2035 contract.

Re: Thats an lazy comparison. Those expire in a couple years

Jul 23, 2022, 12:13 AM

If you watched his press conference, a reporter questioned him about the comparison and stated exactly what Pioneer said. Phillips acknowledge the examples aren’t the same at all. Then he said he THINKS the GOR will hold, “but your guess is as good as mine”.

That’s the 2013 GOR. Another one was updated and signed in 2016 and to my knowledge no one has been able to get it. Below is a cut and paste from the article you posted.

“In 2016, the ACC extended its grant of rights through the 2035-36 academic year as part of a 20-year agreement with ESPN that included the launch of the ACC Network. WRAL does not have a copy of any amended grant of rights agreement.”

Re: ESPN: ACC standing pat, for now, amid the chaos of college

Jul 23, 2022, 12:28 AM

Any article from ESPN on ACC GOR may just as well come from the ACC commissioner/office. They both have equal interest in the ACC staying as it is. I'm done with ESPN other than games and minimal news that doesn't pertain to Clemson/ACC.(Will watch Pack's show, but all the rest are now garbage. Bring back Golic!)
