Is the ACC the only sane voice left?

I'm for making as much money through either realignment or renegotiating TV contracts as the next guy, but honestly the ACC may be the only thing keeping college sports from destroying itself. Personally I think everyone should take a step back and consider the consequences to all sports... not just football.

The sad truth is I don't think anyone really cares what the ACC is doing and we really aren't influencing much of anything.

As Dabo says, "do the common things in an uncommon way to command the attention of the world". Winning is not just a money equation. Don't buy into that mindset and be just like everybody else.

The game today (and Im referring to media deals, portal, NIL) is vastly different than it was then.

And ten years from now it will be vastly different again.

In 2011 there was a massive expansion panic. We heard the ESPN deal between us and SCAR would result in an impossible gap between our two programs. We had to jump to the Big 12 was the biggest argument then. Rumors swirling. Urgency abound.
Everyone was SURE if Clemson wanted to stay relevant we had to jump ship at all costs.
This won't be the last time "things are different this time."

I saw an article recently that stated that if Clemson remains in the ACC until 2036 (the last year of the current contract) it will receive approximately one billion (1,000,000,000.00) less than Rutgers and approximately 800 million (800,000,000.00) less than Vanderbilt. Facing that much difference in revenue do you really think Clemson can remain competitive with the lowly coots much less Ohio State, Alabama etc.? Anyone that has national aspirations in any sport will find it practically impossible to achieve their goals if they are facing that much of a revenue shortfall vs. the “big boys.” In recent years the revenue difference between the ACC and the SEC/Big Ten has been significant but manageable. Soon it will be enormous.

I'm just saying, isn't there a better way to do this? Someone needs to have a plan. right now it's a free for all. Every conference is trying to make their conference the strongest and richest. Why not completely remove college football from the conferences before we tear all the other sports apart? Let college football be realigned into geographical divisions, and drop the conference affiliations. Let there be dollar caps on the divisions, so no one or two divisions will have an unfair advantage. What they're doing now will only last a few years before this is done anyway. Anything is better than what is happening now.

There ar too many league members happy with the current situation. They can exist with little aspirations to be anything more. Football is not that important. They suck ! Go Tigers!

Yes, it's a different level of athletic interest and $$$ but they are stable and keep sports in perspective with the higher academic goals of the schools. (I say this as someone with family in one of the Ivy schools now as an undergrad.) I do wonder though that maybe they should make a play for Duke and Wake...I think both those schools would fit in the Ivy profile well.

He says all teams should be independent in football, and then have conference affiliations in all other sports, ala Notre Dame. Makes sense to me.

And I agree that the Conferences (or Leagues?) are looking out for what makes them relevant/money. I was opposed to the last ACC expansion and preferred it when conferences had geographical relevance and then schools played other parts of the country in the bowl games. But TV calls the shots and holds the purse strings and the fans matter very little. The other sports matter even less apparently.
I will pull for the Tigers even if we go Big South or CUSA!

An old saying fits here. "If you think you are sane and everyone else insane, you have the insane mind."
This is a more accurate portrayal of the situation. The ACC was elitist and would not let football powers join because the school did not fit the ACC perception of what it's members should be. ACC finally decided that it wants football schools and now the football schools tell ACC to go pound sand.
ACC is like the stuck up cheerleader in high school who wouldn't give you the time of day. She married someone who cheated on her and left her and the kids. Now she flirts and tries her best to hook up with you and you just laugh at her. That's the ACC.
