You may be on to something - but who told you you were smart? Definitely wicked, perhaps they go hand in hand. Kind of like Hitler/Stalin - too soon?
Top of the day to you sir.

The joke was a play on a budwieser commercial:

That got the fellow a few looks.

I was working in the IPTAY office as a grad student. I was walking out of Jervey and met Frank Howard coming in. He looked at me and said, "did you hear about the space shuttle? It blew up!" Tears were streaming down his face. That was the first that I had heard about it. I'll never forget that.

I was in 4th grade and several of the other classes joined together to watch the launch. I can remember sitting on the hardwood floor looking at the "big" tube TV on the rolling cart. We all sat and watched the launch of the shuttle and I can vividly remember seeing the smoke trailing from it strangely and asking my teacher if something was wrong with it. Then all of a sudden the explosion happened and we all sat there silent for what seemed like an eternity and then several students and the teacher began crying. That is a day that is etched in my memory along with 9-11.

not much of a "where were you?" moment for me, really.
I guess I was at work, but don't remember anybody talking about it at all. I watched the replay on the news that night, I'm sure.

I was sitting in my office in Gastonia, NC at the time after having lunch with my boss who was visiting for the day. We flipped on the TV to watch the launch before he left. We sat for an hour watching the event unfold in silence with our heads in our hands. Felt the same way as I did on 9-11.

I remember it well. When The Columbia blew up several years later in re-entry-I was just getting off the plane in Detroit. As I walked to the main terminal, I remember everyone was standing still and looking up at the TV monitors through out the area. I knew immediately that something big had happened and learned what it was as soon as I saw the TV.

They set up TV's in the lunch room so if you had a lunch period during that time you could watch the shuttle launch. But it launched before we made it into lunch.
We were watching a film at the time and the teacher came in and flipped on the lights, turned off the projector and flipped her hands skyward. She teared up and said "The Space Shuttle just blew apart on launch." Then she resumed the film, turned the lights back off and walked out of the room. It was only about 10 minutes till our lunch period where we would be able to see the TV, but it felt like 10 hours. I was numb.

Obviously that guy was not even looking at any live launch monitors at the time, or he would have had something more emotional to say.
