Besides coaching differences how X and O’s different will it look? What’s different about it than under Wes and even Brent. I’m assuming Wes ran Brent’s D?

It’s the intangibles that were missing. The inability to set the edge, to leverage the field, violence at the point of attack, and playing too soft in coverage. Not only that, but the #### poor tackling.

Although both ran mostly a 4-2-5, Allen's Defense focuses on completing tackles.

Goodwin and Venables differed greatly in their defensive philosophy. Venables ran a hyper-aggressive, disguise-heavy defense built on confusion and pressure. Goodwin dialed that back to a more straightforward, talent-reliant defense that emphasized execution over chaos. Venables implemented exotic blitz schemes to pressure the quarterback while Goodwin relied heavily on his defensive front 4 to apply the pressure. I remember Goodwin, when he 1st got the job saying, he was going to simplify the defense. He certainly made it easier for the opposing offense!

I believe one of the biggest differences we will see is the ability to make adjustments during the game as the opposing offenses make their adjustments. That and Allen is actually a coach and he knows how to correct a player when they do something wrong.

Yes, Tom Allen's D is much stiffer than Godwin's!

I'm satisifed Tom's D will open many more holes and the penetration much more satisfying.
I apologize in advance for that, Gentlemen, but such a soft toss demanded a swing for the fence.

Goodwin ran a lot of base 4-3-4 whereas Allen will run a 4-2-5 nickel
The main weakness of the scheme Goodwin ran was that it's not particularly effective against spread offenses, or that it's "complicated" to run. In the case of Goodwin, it was.

Goodwin was soft, his defense was too. Not enough pressure, little to no adjustments, poor fundamentals. Goodwins not a coach, he’s an analyst. He was propped up by high levels of talent on the feild (when he remembered to put them out there that is!) but we all saw what a disaster he was. Terrible hire, great fire.
Allen brings back the edge and intensity, for sure you want see us sit back and let teams pick us apart down the field like we’ve been seeing. Like BVs D it will give up the occasional big play, but the net results will be much better in the end.

We will see some motivated kids that can actually tackle or Ben Boulware will be waiting on the sideline for them.

Goodwin really believed tackling was overrated. He also believed his linebackers should always be a little late to the play.
