"This" of course means the Streeter firing. I really liked Streeter, as a Clemson man, but Dabo absolutely did the right thing. Does this light a fire under Wes for him to understand that Dabo will not settle for mediocrity. I know he understands ....... but this really should make him notice. That said, I expect to see a big jump in performance in Wes's second year.

If it doesn't he's not as smart as everyone thinks he is. Hopefully with a year under his belt and the players coming back there's a lot more understanding of the play calling, in the booth and on the field this year. If there is, Coach Goodwin might make some noise. I'm pretty sure everyone here hopes as much.

Wes is giving it his all.
Lets give the man at least another year before firing shots like that at him. Even Venables didn't come in year one and dominate. He's got a year under his belt, players returning to help mentor the new pups and hopefully any nerves settled. If he doesn't improve at all this year (with this recent turn of events at OC) I think we all see Dabo will hold him accountable.

Are you saying that Goodwin was slacking off in 2022 because he felt invulnerable in his job, and that the firing of Streeter is somehow going to "scare him straight" and make him work hard now?
Has Goodwin ever had a job remotely similar to being the DC at a top-10 college football program before last season? Could it be that the guy is very young and inexperienced, and that he has a lot to learn about coaching at this level?

No .... I don't think Wes was slacking off at all. I don't think Streeter was either, but sometimes you are complacent and don't even realize it ....... until something like this comes along. Very young and inexperienced on the field is perfect description. That is why I suggested maybe a big jump will come his second year ...... much like players.

I think Wes has plenty of potential
I wouldn’t cut bait on that hire just yet
for a year one DC - the defense played fairly well most of the season
we are missing attitude, want to and toughness more than anything else
- dabo addressed this publicly at one point in the season
the new landscape of college football makes this probably the toughest task of all

Clemson's DC from the get go. He may not look it but he's no stranger to the business. Following a DC legend like Venables at a championship level program takes a lot of guts and confidence. Thought he held his own his first season pretty well.
