Does anyone think our problems at safety are due to the past

Oct 1, 2012, 9:38 AM

few years?

On the play that Peters got "burned" on, both safeties bit hard on the play action.

If you remember in the past few years how terrible our linebacker play has been the safeties have been called upon for run support. The main thing is that both Hall and Meeks have both been playing the last 2 or 3 years and basically have the "bad habit" of thinking they have to come and help on the run instead of sitting back on a pass.

Just a thought.

it is almost as if every game we have to let someone get behind us and give up a long td.

I see lots of team play the pass so they dont get beaten deep. we just never seem to be one of those

I agree.

I think a lot of what is wrong with our defense is unlearning what they were taught in the past. They are still thinking instead of reacting. Venables said he did not want them to think, but to react instantly. That will take time to develop, bad habits die hard.

You know I don't respect Lou Holtz much because of the team he used to coach but he was saying this is a college football problem not just a Clemson problem. For some reason every team that played on Saturday (you could watch an hour of high (low) lights from the WV-Baylor game alone). For some reason the safeties are not playing with the mentality that no one gets behind them! It is a technique thing and maybe a mentality thing...they think they need to make the big hit or take more chances to get an interception to get on Sportcenter! JMO.

I saw one of our players go for the ball and he

was 4 ft behind the wr. He had zero chance on the ball but could have had a chance at the tackle if the wr had to studder catch the ball. It really looked like a player who didn't want to hit somebody and took the easy way out that might look like he was doing something.

Overall all though, except for 2 drives the D played a little bit better this week which is encouraging.

We improved on this Saturday though.

Part of the problem is....

and inability by the DL to consistently get pressure on the QB.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.
