One night after a Bowl Game was staying downtown and hit the Underground. Good food, and later a guy doing a cover of Otis Redding came on. The guy was amazing.

Better to have it and never need it. A couple of shootings this week in Charlotte believe 2 dead. There is crime in Charlotte but do not normally hear of many shooting deaths in uptown.

Some people like to be dramatic and act like the "big city" is so dangerous.
Reminds me of the first time I went to NYC. I've got family that watches the news and ID channel religiously. I think it was around the time the knifings were going on in the subway so family thought we'd be at risk basically every time we stepped out the door of something bad happening.
Nope. NYC felt pretty safe walking around. Only time I felt uncomfortable was during rush hour in Times Square because I had some folks getting a little close and I knew pickpockets are still a thing. Granted, I basically stayed in at night because I'm not about the night life but seemed like most rules would apply of don't put yourself in a bad spot and you'll likely be fine.
Even in ATL, I felt fine taking MARTA from the airport to Buckingham at night and the day.

Not Uptown CLT, but leave inner beltway 277 then maybe. I've lived in Uptown 10+ yrs. I have a ccp and never do. I do carry a knife, never had to use it. During Covid, and several "peaceful protest periods"/ riots I had to use my expandable baton, but that was extreme situations and not the norm.

I was going to meet a friend in Washington DC and took a wrong turn off the belt. I stopped at a payphone (remember those?) and called her. She asked where I was, so I told her the intersection. She said, "Hang up, get out of that area now. Get back on the belt. Go five exits and call me back."

My wife has a bunch of Philly suburbanite friends who are terrified to go into rural America. You know, banjo music and toothlessness, and what not. Rural America is also super poor. Itās about being scared of what you donāt know. Iāll take my chances in the woods over most urban neighborhoods.

When growing up in Poconos, everybody was scared to visit Philly. Only went 1x per year when town chartered busses for a Phillies game.
When living in Philly and suburbs, they weren't scared of rural PA, but saw no reason to go there (except for a few tourist highlight day trips). Assumed everybody in countryside was on meth.

One deal is deterrence (like nuclear bombs which can be dropped). Some carry, and even though most don't it helps all.
I would hate to be in a position where I could not defend mine.

Iām not trying to say thereās anything wrong with having a gun; I just think itās unnecessary for most people. You used to be in law enforcement right; so I can see how youāve become accustomed to having a weapon. I donāt go places that I feel are unsafe; also Iām kind of a big guy so people donāt usually try to eff with me. I havenāt done any real research but it seems that the instances where violent random attacks are thwarted by just a regular person carrying a weapon are rare; Itās usually someone from law enforcement that steps in. I can see having a few people at church or gatherings like that who are designated to carry a weapon, but just regular everyday trips to the piggly wiggly seem unnecessary.

I have a CCP but never carry on my person although I have one in my car and usually nearby. I canāt imaging ever want to go to the city of Atl unless driving directly to the airport. One of the reasons I stopped going to the ACCCG was walking through the city at 1:00 AM on the way home with no option to carry as you get checked going into the game

gun are reported and presuming law enforcement would encourage this behavior with a press conference or headline. There's no real incentive for the civilian to report the incident unless the need for attention outweighs the hassle of a visit to the police station to report>interrogation which hypothetically could lead to a random inhome follow-up visit by law enforcement where a victimless crime may or may not be taking place. Collectively law enforcement officials would prefer that no-one outside of the police carried firearms as this would make their duties much easier, significantly safer and at the same time increasing the public's dependence on law enforcement agencies. There's no incentive for police officials to voluntarily acknowledge an incident of success, only an incident of failure-

"Collectively law enforcement officials would prefer that no-one outside of the police carried firearms as this would make their duties much easier, significantly safer and at the same time increasing the public's dependence on law enforcement"
Except I disagree about increasing dependence since there would be much less violent crime to police. Now I know this is fantasy land since the bad guys have guns it's necessary to let the good guys have em too.

its not necessary til its necessary. I should carry all the time but do most of the time. Problem is, you don't know the time you'll need it and in this world the law of averages is scary with regard to self defense. As an OTP Atlanta area person , I wouldn't dare enter the perimeter without carrying. The ostensibly/formerly safe areas are far from it.

If you have vehicle issues while traveling and have to get out, regardless of where you, if you need to protect your self, take out your phone and call 911.........see how that works out for you. Just so you know, I have a belt holster for my 9mm, a shoulder holster for my .45/410 Judge Defender, and of course I have my .25 auto in my pocket with my hand on it, safety off at all times! "Better to be judged by 12, than carried by 6!"

No. If I think I might need to carry, I donāt go.
I used to carry, up until about 18 years ago. After a good deal of thought, I arrived at 2 truths that I thought i should heed. #1 - My temper is too hot. #2 - not one time ever in my entire life have I had the thought, boy, that sure wouldāve worked out better if I had a gun.
So no, I donāt carry.

My wife and I live in Buckhead. Itās pretty safe. Sketchy areas are like by Turner field. Everything is getting gentrified.
The only reason you need a gun is if youāre a drug dealer or want to get into trouble. 90% of the city is safe.

Oh, also anything near Lakewood amphitheater/airport/cfa hq can get a lil sketchy but Iād barely call that atlanta.
Pretty much everything north of of the perimeter is pretty safe - itās not atlanta, itās south Tennessee!
The area near the braves stadium is nice and gentrified. The area west of the Benz is a lil sus - but is going to be super nice in 10-15 years.

Vine city by the stadium was super dangerous back in the early 2000s. I made a few deliveries over there and even the āundocumentedā workers I had helping me didnāt want to go there. I hear itās being slowly gentrified. That area made most of Philly look tranquil and prosperous.

This thread brings me back to the time when I made a wrong turn in Memphis. The area sure made an impression on me and I quickly got out of there.

Stupid post. Donāt hangout in areas of any town that you know might cause you trouble. Youāll never make it to be an old happy retiree.

What is so stupid about that post? Just donāt hang out in bad areas isnāt always practical or possible. What if you are a stranger in a town or city & donāt know about the bad parts of town. Whatās stupid is having the ability to have something on you for your protection but not actually having when you need it. Itās always better to have something on you & not need it then need something & not have it on you. I carry everywhere I go. In fact I avoid any areas where you arenāt allowed to conceal carry. One of the most fundamental rights if not the single most important one is to the right to self defense.

If it is a blue voting area, carry. If it's a red voting area you should be OK.

Iāve lived in Atlanta or right around it for virtually all of my 48 years and Iāve never been the victim of a crime. My mom is an Atlanta native in her 70s and has never been the victim of a crime. Unless you live in a neighborhood that is a high crime area or you are out at 2 am somewhere you shouldnāt be youāll be just fine.

Hope football season starts soon, yāall are reaching for something to discuss on a Sports Board. Not planning on carrying anything but a loud voice to help pull Tigers through when we play Tech in September.

Absolutely! I always have my PPD on me in any city. Especially since my son in law was murdered in Newark, NJ!
