DJ held this program back for two years. As a result

Our recruiting fell off with some good players causing us to be not as good. DB, Receivers, O line to name a few. With us not using the portal to keep the talent up here we are. Kornbutt asked Dabo about his program falling from elite. If Dabo gave him an honest answer he would have to say yes. Alabama did not make the playoffs either but we’re good enough to blow away Kansas State. Tenn was without their 2 best receivers starting QB off cord and best defensive player Banks. We use to be able to cover that situation.

We are not good enough to blow out Kansas State.

DJ as well as BV and Eiot leaving. We will have to build it all back up. I think it will take a couple more seasons.

Yes. Agree. Losing the two coordinators along with us being wrong on DJ and having no one ready to take over at QB has set our program back. I do believe Dabo will get it straightened out. I hope while this is going on we don’t lose to FL State ND Miami and NC next year. If so may take a lot longer to get back. It only takes one or two mistakes to put you on bottom.

I said we risk losing at least 4 games next year…

And the games you mentioned were in my list. Then don’t think Miami is going to sit still. They will be better too.

DJ did not hold the program back. That is on the coaches. Always will be.

Now that DJ is gone, the pumpers can blame him for all of the team’s issues and why Clemson has gone backwards the past two years.

Agreed - the idiocy of the coaches in NOT moving away from DJU and not at least strongly emphasizing our 2 really good backs (3 when Pace was healthy) until Cade gained more experience is the FAIR criticism of our otherwise great and appreciated head coach. Last 2 loses solely on them. That said, DO believe Dabo fixes this and we do not beat ourselves this way next year. More studs on both lines coming in - surely they can make this work after 2 seasons of lessons in what NOT TO DO.

We had so many negative things to hit us at one time, very few teams survive this type of thing. Bad QB decisions, losing both coordinators, poor offensive and defensive management, lack of adequate recruiting, illnesses, injuries, and tragic things but we still manage 10 wins. With some correct hires on both sides of the ball and a good recruiting coordinator, we will be back. However, we must be improved next year or will lose in recruiting battles. Just my opinion.

It’s crucial we remain the best ACC team next year or we will really struggle in recruiting. FL ST using the portal and nil, Miami using NIL, ND always going to be tough, and NC with Maye will be a challenge for our team. I’m glad we got 3 of those at home.

I’m beginning to not blame DJ and only blame the coaches. Cade was woefully unprepared and the scheme was a disaster. That’s on the coaches. And I’m not blaming the defense although they too had a bad game. Inability to score was what killed us

There are 11 players on offense and 11 on defense and you cannot blame a single player for our losses. I love Cade but those of you that thought he would waltz in and win every game have already been wrong. Football is a team game.

You also only get to put 11 players on the field at a time. I keep hearing about Tennessee missing Hooker. We were beaten largely because of big pass plays. Milton is probably a bigger weapon in that respect. Hooker very well could have gashed us in other ways, but let's don't pretend that it is a guarantee that we would have been beaten worse with both teams at full strength.
At the very least let's play the what if game both ways. What if we would have had Beaux Collins, Simpson, Murphy, and Jones? I assume those guys could have had some impact.

Clemson has been held back by two things. The biggest was that DJ wasn't the QB we thought he would be and we didn't have a good replacement until late this year. Another was so many WRs stayed hurt or never developed into the type of WRs Clemson had from 2015 to 2019. Fix those two problems and the Tigers are CFP bound every year.

I think our DB's have taken a step backwards as well. Need some help, there.

I agree, but I think that Lukus and Pride will both be tough. We won't be back to some of the years of the past, but I think that we will be improved for next year.

Oh please! Swinney could have pulled the plug on DJU at any time but he didn't. Stop blaming DJU for wanting to keep playing. Was he supposed to say "Hey coach, I think you should play someone else at QB." The coaching same is responsible for where the Tigers currently find themselves...plain and simple.

Sorry OP, but no. DJ did not hold the program back. Coaching staff held this program back. While maybe not great in some or even many areas (if you want to really be critical of that too), be thankful that they recruited as well as they did so that there was/is enough talent on the field to carry the day until it's not.
