If I were the teams playing in the playoff games next weekend, I would ask them if loser wanted to play in it. Some teams who lose might want that bowl experience.

But, at the same time would you not leave your current job for a better opportunity? Again, this is one of those situations where the right thing (players able to financially benefit from their effort and move where they can best receive whatever benefit they are looking for) clashes with the foundation of the sport I love. I know it's bad for the sport, but how the question is how best to fix/evolve it back to cloer to what it was rather than how do we remove the abilities for players to have the freedom to make the choices we take for granted.

It seems to me that if they didn’t open the stupid portal until after the season is completely over, that would stop the mass exodus before bowl games. They could then move signing day to February or March for teams to replace the defectors. Get rid of the early signing period. What am I missing?

Now, I'd be fine with making the portal time period tied to the beginning and end of the complete school year. I think that would also quell some of the transfers as it doesn't allo transferring players to take part in spring football camp.

NLI and portal are killing college football.
Portal should not open until after the bowl games. This also allows for most coaching changes, so a player makes an informed decision about where he wants to go.

I don’t agree with eliminating all other bowl games. Teams need a reward for a good season, and they can’t all make the playoffs.

Well it seems most of the team in those bowls don't give a #### if they all opt out lol, I don't think they care about that reward. The only rewards in college football now are the playoffs and NIL deals

At best it’s 3 hours of entertainment. I just don’t see what possible reason folks want to remove games that might (or might not) end up being good games. They do nothing to diminish the other games played (playoffs etc). What do you gain by them disappearing and what do they harm by existing?

Head coach took a new job and the players want to go with him.
This is a crippling blow to that program. Both in terms of the search for a new coach and in roster depth/experience. This could set them back a decade or more. The portal system needs revising.

It sure slams the door on the notion that there are student athletes.
We just need to mentally divorce the idea that college football has anything to do with college at all. NIL should have contracts that require the player to complete the contract before and transfer can be done. We are at the point where the pendulum has swung way to far in the opposite direction and schools and boosters now need protection. I am pretty sure that a significant chunk of NIL money and scholarships was spent to buy those players in the first place. I wonder what the monitary loss was? How long will it take Marshall to rebuild again? A decade? Or will they decide that football is just not worth it and drop the program?
at least 20 of the boys that got into the portal are scholarhsip players getting room and board to play football. Just scholarship money paid out is $32,000 per year per player. A minimum of $640,000 direct loss for the school in giving dropouts free tution with room and board.
