DirectTV tailgating question.

Sep 24, 2015, 6:58 PM

Thinking about finally setting up a TV for the ND tailgate. I know the HD satellites are a lot harder to set up and wondering if it is worth the trouble. I think my receiver will work with either SD or HD. I am think that SD might be easier and fine for a tailgate. I am fairly confident the SD will work, but I am a bit concerned i wont get the signal on HD.

Any thoughts? Thanks if you have any opinions to share.

You should practice setting up a dish before you start...

thinking you can do it. It's a PITA the first time unless you have the mobile setup.

Can't help ya with Direct. I use Tailgater from Dish. No aiming required. Set the Tailgater on top of my truck and done.

We are on Lot 2 and have used Direct TV with an SD dish for years. You can do it as long as the trees are not an issue.. Go Tigers!!!

I use directv at my tailgate with an HD receiver. I purchased a meter that tunes directv or dish. takes me 5 min to set up. If you are near Sikes hall, you can borrow it...

I use had directv with my camper. You need a satellite signal finder. You cannot connect to the receiver while trying to find the signal. Use directv settings to find your compass setting by zip code so you can get pointed to the general area before using the signal finder. The swm has to be connected to power to get a signal. I have a splitter that allows me to connect the swm, the power, and the signal finder at the same time. If you have never done this before do not wait for game day to try. You will end up chucking everything into hartwell. It took me several attempts to figure it out without buying an automated signal finder. Good luck

Buy the Dish Tailgater. I have DirecTV at home

but the ability of the Tailgater to find the sattellite automatically is WELL worth the cost of a second account. You can inactivate it in December. :)

We have a dish, set up in Lot 3, right at Littlejohn. Trees aren't an issue - the first couple times we did it, it took a couple of minutes, but now it's no problem. Also, there are apps on your phone that will help you locate.
