Jan 2, 2018, 1:06 PM

Offensive linemen look not good last night.

Nice guy, good recruiter, can’t coach the basic fundamentals of oline play...

over the past 7 seasons about 85% of the time the oline has inadequate to mediocre. Time for him to go enjoy retirement

The line played well in 12 1/2 of 14 games. If he were a problem he would be gone. When he retires I think he will be the hardest of the current staff to replace.

I know the O-Line struggled last night, but were we complaining about this all year? We had 2 or 3 all-conference I thought. And didn't DW4 do "okay" vs. Bama with the exact same "younger" line?

Yes, some of you with an agenda, need more than a game or 2 to push it,you don't have it.Since 2011 Caldwell's line's have improved every year.

Jan 2, 2018, 1:49 PM [ in reply to Did he have the Oline prepared ]

Played decent last half of the 2015 season and played good for 8 games this season. Last night was a reversion to the same ole poor foot and handwork, and standing around that has epitomized the oline during Caldwell’s tenure at Clemson. There is a reason why before Clemson, even though being around for a while in the coaching biz, that he only coached at NCSU and Vandy. And there is a reason why on the OL we aren’t producing NFL caliber players, while producing NFL players at all the other position groups

The problem is we can't make changes on the fly when we see what a team is doing against us. Why do we have coaches watching all the angles and never respond. Disappointing!!

Re: What does anyone think about OL coach Robbie Caldwell?

If you're judging an OL coach by the way their OL looks against Bama, then I'm not sure any OL coaches would be employed. I'd say the same for OL coaches when going up against our defense. Our DL did a great job last night as well. They held Bama well below their season rushing average, and kept Hurts running for his life. Hurts to his credit however, was able to escape and keep a lot of plays alive with his feet. If Hurts doesn't do that, and if we didn't have two costly turnovers then the Bama OL wouldn't have looked much different from ours.

It will be interesting to see how Pittman's OL does.

I think it's also fair to point out that one big problem for us this season, and last night as well was the blocking of our young backs. That's something a lot of young backs struggle with, and should get better with experience.

Jan 2, 2018, 1:42 PM

to last night's game to say I think he might be a weak spot but I'll explain. As I said in another post, when's the last time you honestly think the line want it weakest unit on the team? I would also hard a guess that this unit has produced the fewddt amount of NFL players, while the Day and skill spots seem to do pretty well here. For those that talk about last year's team and what DW did with the same line, don't you give a large part of that credit to DW Anand Gallman?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Great person, doesn't develop his players...

Jan 2, 2018, 1:51 PM

Lots of 4 and 5 star Offensive Lineman over the past four years, and they never seem to level up their game. The talent is clearly there, but Caldwell just can't seem to get the best out of them.

nicely as two or three Stars. Hyatt, Pollard, Guillermo, Crowder have all developed nicely as four stars. Just because one DL whipped us in one game doesn't change that.

Re: What does anyone think about OL coach Robbie Caldwell?

Jan 2, 2018, 1:55 PM

Bama sent the left end after KB all night and we never recognized it or made changes to stop it. Same old stuff all year. We never really executed to what was available to us or made changes. Very disappointing.

Re: What does anyone think about OL coach Robbie Caldwell?

> Offensive linemen look not good last night.

FYI, since Robbie Caldwell has been there, we have recruited top talent on the Offensive Line, but we have not been able to develop them into a dominant force. With big strong bodies we have on the offensive line, we should be pancaking the defensive line of our opponents. There is just something about the lack of physicality of play with our offensive line. For all of those who want to blame Kelly Bryant for last night's atrocity, please look no further than the poor blocking of the offensive line. I have no doubts that Caldwell is a great recruiter, and a loyal man to Dabo, but something has to give. We haven't had a truly dominant offensive line since he's been there. We have the occasional player that comes as a complete package, but where is the development of the players that need to develop? The only lineman that held his blocks last night was Mitch Hyatt. The other ones were man handled in embarrassing fashion. Now, I am not sure who this falls on completely. Could it be the strength and conditioning we have or actual development of technique? No one really knows, but for what it's worth, people need to figure it out quickly.

We average like 77th in the country in sacks given up

Jan 2, 2018, 3:01 PM

In his tenure at Clemson. I just don't see in what way that's acceptable. Especially with the talent he had this season. A veteran group with great talent and we are sitting at 92nd in the country in sacks given up.
