With it being game one, maybe the stamina of guys on the DL isn't quite where it needs to be yet so he got more snaps than usual. However, we went out and got Heldt because Dabo knew he wasn't the guy to man that DE spot full time. Insanely, we constantly saw him in the game on critical 3rd downs and I was just scratching my head as to why. Hopeful his snaps can be reduced to that 8-12 range where it belongs.

LSU had possession of the FB for nearly 2/3 rds of the game. The rotation of our top 3 DEs (Parker, Heldt, and Lawson) was inadequate for having to be on the field so much.

What about D.Mayo? He’s been putting on lots of (hopefully good) weight; I’m guessing that we are attempting to grow him into a DT. (We would not be attempting this if his skill set looked promising for the DE position; everyone knows we are super thin at DE.)

Back to Denhoff. Who do you use for some snaps while Parker, Heldt, and Lawson are on the sidelines hitting the O2 mask? I don’t think Zaire Patterson is ready yet (please, spare the snarky comments). Ari Watford is a true FR that the coaches have had plenty of time to see in practice. Our coaches are not stupid; clearly they didn’t view Watford as capable of playing his first college game against a team whose OL was clearly better than anything that Watford had seen in Spring and pre-season camp.

OK, we’re back to Denhoff again. Who ya got?

Yeah, I didn’t think so.

(Denhoff has put in the work to eventually make himself good enough to not be pancaked. He keeps his feet while -&- after being pushed off his place while trying to set the edge. He puts forth genuine effort to chase down plays; he is quite fast. He is our fourth best DE. Give him and the coaches a break.)

DENHOFF is an instant 10 plus yard gain. EVERY OC knows that. He is a HUGE liability. LSU ran @ him most every time he was on the field. Curiously, he seemed to always be in the game on critical third downs. Is this Allen or his position coach inserting him? Why? He never makes a play. For that matter, Parker and Woods have made little to no difference. COME ON TOM, take control.
