Last night. Offense pretty typical. Enough to win, proud of them. Long, long way to go, but nice first step.

It was the glare of BV from the sidelines.

and multiple lack of containments that let the QB get long runs.

We still aren’t getting enough pressure on the QB when we really need to. I was kind of surprised to see that the box score said we had 6 sacks. It sure didn’t seem like that many. We let the QB stand there and go through multiple reads and several times FSU simply missed on easy big plays because their WRs had linebacker hands.

I didn't look at the box score but I think 2 of those

were trip and falls. The turf monster caused the sack more than our defense.

But without pressure, ole turfie doesn't get them.

Yea. Terrell definitely got credited for one of those. I believe Jaheim Lawson has been our most consistent defensive lineman. I would have said Heldt after the first 3-4 games, but he has pretty much disappeared the last few games.

Heldt does a good job, of all things, in pass coverage.

That aspect of his game was reported prior to us getting him.

He still does a decent job in pass rush in that, at least, the OT has to work hard to contain him.

Yes. Jaheim does well in pass coverage too. He was really close to an interception way out along the sideline last night.

Friday night will be a whole different opponent on offense and defense. We will see how we look. Not convinced this staff is turning things around. FSU is the equal to BC and UNC.

It is baffling to me why we don't blitz more, especially on throwing downs.

I think it's because a good qb would make us pay. Leave us exposed. Jennings, angeli and Menasha is our Achilles. One reason in my preview that I said our match-up with fsu was favorable.

We'd probably struggle with Miami and California. I think we'll match-up with Louisville too. Again, our Achilles are pass happy teams... not balanced teams. Jmho

I think out DBs are slow outside of AT. When you blitz they are in man coverage without help. That could be a big problem.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We blitzed a few timesand set off huge runs by QB

On a couple of them…

FSU QB can run. Have to blitz with care against those types of QBs.
But he wasn’t the most accurate…and the pressure was enough to affect him.

Much better rally to the ball. I also remember some key plays that the Tigers strung the ball carrier out to the sidelines and kept really good edge containment. Still some busts and not enough surprise blitz schemes. But FSU has a really good offense and Clemson held them in check most of the game.
