David Hale Interview on ESPNU Radio

Nov 11, 2022, 12:50 PM

Not sure if anyone heard the interview but he gave a good description of his perception ( and I think a lot fans) of Dabo’s mindset. Basically Dabo bet on himself and wanted to prove he did things right. Even went as far as telling the media they were crazy after DJ and defense had good starts to season. Now he seems to be backing up a little. He absolutely doesn’t want any outside criticism of the program.

It was a good interview but David continued to say that Dabo earned the right to make the changes the way he did but the fan base will turn on him based on the standards Dabo himself preached.

I can see this & concur..

Dabo is loyal to a fault to those around him including family, friends, associates & players..and a fact that millions of people around the world would love to have graced upon them in a world with very little loyalty shown.

Yes, his unbelievable success gives him
much deserved leverage, support and trust.

I did not hear the interview, but from your description I was blessed not to hear such stupid drivel!

Just out of curiosity, what here is "stupid drivel"? Sounds like a pretty level and reasonable description.

No. Dabo just has faith in people like Spiller, Austin, Goodwin, etc

Nov 11, 2022, 2:08 PM

He chooses to empower them because he believes in them and trusts them as humans.

Has nothing to do about betting on himself or doing things his way.

Now maybe he shouldn’t trust his people as much as he does but he truly believes that they can do it because he was able to do it. He just wants to give them an opportunity.

You are correct with Dabo’s unselfish approach as opposed to

Nov 11, 2022, 2:34 PM

Hale’s (and the world’s) selfish approach. However, the results are the same with a declining program unfortunately. Those around Dabo are not getting it done and he is in a tight corner on the decisions needed to reverse the current course of the program. I hope he can make the right decisions to turn it around.

My fear is that in order to be proven right about the coaching staff he put together he is going to hang on to all of them to the bitter end. This offseason should be a serious time for reflection and adjustments but I just don't think he has it in him right now. A lot depends on how we finish this year. He has proven to be capable of making tough coaching calls in the past, i.e. after the WVA Orange Bowl fiasco, but I don't think he believes it has gotten that bad yet.

I must disagree. I believe he knows he has problems and there will be staff changes in the off season. Time will tell.
