Dabo really needs to get Chad Morris back here ... ASAP ... reasons

None of this High School stuff about arrogance and didn't get along and all that ...
Clemson O line was also terrible prior to his arrival in 2011. It was still terrible when he arrived, it takes a couple of years to turn a O line around
Chad immediatly implemented a "spread offense" focusing on quick passes and "jet sweeps". This compensates for a weak O line. The QB gets the ball out of his hand quick. Also, real important, it was a "hurry up offense". The idea again is to gas the the Defense and keep them off balance.
We need to do this again until Daba can use the portal to rebuild the line.
Yes, we had some real good "skill" players back then but they were few, and our current crew is "good enough". Also, you cannot rely on just a few guys to carry a team, this is not Basketball.
Do these things and be glad.

No thanks! Chad was running the fast paced spread when it was new. Everyone has figured out how to defend that by now.

But has not been the answer anywhere he’s been since Clemson. He also was famous for inexplicable letdowns. When that nervous gum chewing would get going, it typically spelled trouble for the Tigers.

I distinctly remember running the ball down the coots’ throats and then calling an idiotic trick play where Sammy threw a pick. That pretty much sums up his ability to coach when the pressure was on. Don’t get me wrong. I appreciate Chad. He got us to another level but could only take us so far. He’s not the offensive genius that some on here remember him to be.

Overthinking his play calling and often resorting to trick or gimmick plays when such action was not at all necessary. They usually blew-up on us and killed momentum.

As much as I love the HUNH spread offense, if we tried to go back to it we would get beat much worse than what is happening now.
Yes, the HUNH does somewhat cover up for a weak OL because you're causing the defense to get tired, but to make the HUNH work, you need more than good receivers and a QB who makes fast reads and gets the ball out in a hurry.... you also need a very good defense that can get off the field - otherwise you'll wear out your defense in 2 long drives by your opponent and they'll then turn the tables on you and start running their own HUNH - and then it's game over for you!
We do not have the defense required to be successful with a HUNH offense - no matter how good our offense might be.

Your second line is why that really won't work. "it takes a couple of years to turn an O line around".
You no longer have years to turn anything around. Maybe a couple of weeks.

I’m a bit torn on whether I want the Chad back as OC. On one hand Chad never met a deep shot he didn’t like which could work really well with CV (if he starts next year)
In the other hand Chad had a lot of the same problems we have now; abandoning the run, poor O-line play, over reliance on screens.
I’d like us to look elsewhere, but I wouldn’t hate the idea of him back.

Morris was set in his ways and not very good at adjusting to what the other team’s defense did in the second half.

opposing defenses. Recruits liked it b/c it was fresh take on offense with alot of energy and opportunities. But as with most gimmicky offenses they have a shelf life. If you remember, at the end, it got really stale and teams were figuring out how to defend it. Do you not remember sometimes going three and out with less than 10 seconds coming off the clock? We lost a handful of games just for the sake of trying to run 90+ plays and forsaking good time management to close games out.
I think we did well at pounding bad teams with it but good teams seemed to eat us up and it wore out our defense when it wasn't working (primarily against good teams.) The next crop of OC's with (elliot and scott) was I think more of dabo's approach to utilizing up tempo with common sense. Now it seems we've totally abandoned the uptempo elements altogether. Except for certain moments..and we seem to move the ball when we do it. I think we need to revert back to that mix.I'm not a fan of the stop and stall to get the call type offense. I think it kills momentum and seems to kill our QB's rhythm. Not sure if they can just change that in house over the offseason or if it means they need all new blood.

at this point we need to get Barry Switzer in here and run the wishbone if we're going back in time for schemes that are no longer modern.
I think the bones of the offense we're running now IS the Morris offense he came in here and developed 14 years ago. Not as much hurry up and dumbed down a bit.
Batson was also a great S&C coach early on and well into the 2010s but things have evolved and with his health issues it's hard for him to be as intense and in control as he once was. I'd like to see a new staff in there, I think an elite S&C coach like the one Iowa has Raymond Braithwaite will help with the trenches FAR more than a scheme thats fallen out of use over the last 15 years.
Also those "few" skill guys were incredible. Watkins/Bryant/Hopkins/Humphries would all be WR 1 in this offense and many others in the country (Humphries a starting slot) Ellington would be a starting back and although he had some bad games against the coots Tajh would easily be QB1 over what we've had the last 5 years.
Wesco has shown flashes but he's no Sammy/Hopkins Antonio Williams gives it his all but he's injured a ton and not as explosive as Sammy/Hopkins and can't high point like Bryant could.

We have got to compensate for a weak O line
The answer, the band aid is spread and go quick.
And Dabo needs to use the portal to fix that line when the portal opens.
The money and loyalty thing falls on deaf ears. These kids know what Dabo gets paid, they are not stupid.

Wonderful insight. When Chad came we had a very weak O line but he was smart enough to scheme around that and still be able to run the ball and get you a yard when needed. Our defense was not the best and we literally won a lot of games during that time by out scoring teams. He needs to come back and get our offense going again. Except Tony Elliott the other yo yo’s after that has help lead to our demise.

No thanks. There’s a reason the Chad isn’t already employed as a P4 OC. Once the hurry up no huddle was taken away from him, he became average at best and the guy is always looking for his next job. ScElliott was a much better OC Combo.

I appreciate everything Chad Morris did for Clemson football but he hasn't called plays for some time plus I'm not sure his offense would work very well against modern college defenses. Whomever Dabo selects as the new OC (assuming he cuts ties with Riley) I would like an up and comer, who's creative and a top notch recruiter and position coach.
