being the crucial part of the recruiting season, why are Saben and Dabo at the Senior Bowl practice? I might have just answered my question...they are there to support their players, and head coaches are not allowed to go out on the road recruiting (or are they?).

You answered your question in part. They are there to support their players. Also a chance to do some end of season networking. They fly in for a few hours and then head to the next in home visit.
