Watching the product he has put on the field the last 4 years, I would not be bothered at all if he chose to go elsewhere. He has become more like Tommy Bowden with each passing day. Adapt to the new era of college football and quit making excuses.

because of mediocre (at best) QB play during 3 of those seasons and a poor defense in another.

Dabo is the 2nd most accomplished coach in the CFP era, pretty much him and Kirby behind Saban.

Dabo is one of the top 3 winningest coaches in the game today, and he’s near 15th in ALL-TIME wins. He has two national championships (2/3 of all of them at Clemson), and he has what, 9 conference championships? What , 7 playoff appearances in the 11 seasons of its existence?

Gimme a break man. This kind of ignorant (lack of knowledge) stuff is way over the top.

I agree with you 100%. I think a lot of these critics are not long-term Clemson fans!
They are certainly no All-In for the Tigers! Dabo is the best HC we have ever had at Clemson. If we keep him another 15 years, he will be one of the top 5 all time. Winning 9 or 10 games per year is successful at any Division 1 schools. We got spoiled by 15-0 and 14-1 seasons....

This is a highly competitive environment, and we are always competing with much bigger programs and fan bases, with much more money to run their football programs! Personally, I blame Riley more than Dabo for our bad offense, and Dabo will get it right. Look at any of the programs that keep changing head coaches, and they are usually not successful (from listening to discontented fans). We still need to keep the faith through the season.

Most of our young fans, don't realize that we really stunk in the late 1960's and early 1970's. We got blown-out week after week, on the road and in Death Valley. Years that were 2-9 and 3-6-2 back to back were awful, and we got punished weekly. We have two disappointing losses by one TD and one Field Goal. Nothing like getting beat by 40+ weekly! This year is starting bad, but I don't expect it to finish bad, because Dabo has earned my confidence.

Go Dabo, Go Tigers, Beat Syracuse.

I think your 2 posts sum it up. Do you understand his contract? What his legal team pulled off? He's the second highest paid coach in the country with a staff that's in the nations top three. We play in the lowly ACC. We just got outplayed and outcoached by a GT staff that is lead by a coach making 2.8 million per year. The whole GT staff only makes a fraction of Lord Dabo's salary. Are we getting our money's worth? This is professional football at this point and the answer is no, we are coming up woefully short for the enormous spend on the football program. 2-4 in our last 6 games and you can't see the handwriting on the wall? Astounding

Darn tootin it is. Fantasy league trades have crazed their dreams. To that line of thought: For one, who are you going to get? Two, does the human development mean nothing to you? Clemson is the jewel of holistic development programs - the very top, with rivals like Stanford and Duke.

Yall go get Panthers season tickets and leave this college program alone.(How many coaches have the Panthers chewed through for poor results? The Jets?) When he has a Florida State pout quit before a bowl game, or a 2-10 season, then maybe we need a coach search. Wanting him gone now is a personal problem of your own. (Not you but the “Fire Dabo” crew.)

At the Orange Bowl against Ohio State on Jan. 3, 2014, a man behind us kept throwing his hat down and screaming “DABO DUMBO!”

Yes, brilliant alliteration. He wanted him fired then. And we won against one of the biggest, richest, historically significant college powers in America whose fans then left potajohns tipped all over the parking lots. So, those guys exist, and I guess they won’t be fired.

Dabo and Riley have coached Cade and developed him to a Heisman candidate. Unfortunately Cade hasn’t found that footing, but it’s not at all because of coaching or development.

This is THE issue. We see 3-0 with a Cade playing like last season.

Dabo can’t hold Cades hand. If Cade doesn’t do better, it won’t be because of coaching.

Fix that, and there are no other issues which have caused us to be 1-2 instead of 3-0. The problem is a players own mind is in his control and his control only.

We're you around the past 10 years? Long term memory may not be your forte but we were the team to beat for a good part of that. Let alone the biggest stage of all, 44-16 against "the best team to ever step foot on a college football field". Im not ignorant of our current issues but we had a #### of a run of top 5 in the country type success.

Key word in this is long term memory. Short term it’s been pretty bad against SEC and top 10. Dabo needs to figure it out and not get his feelings hurt because we aren’t kissing his butt for the 2016-2019 run.

He really does not like any criticism or any questions about his ability u less it is sunshine and roses.

What about all the WR dropped passes, and terrible OLine play? Is that all on Cade also? What about the schemes from Riley that let defenders rush immediately to Cade with no help? I’m tired of people saying it’s just one person or one things. Go watch TMacs review of the GT game and maybe your eyes will open. I’m not saying Cade hasn’t performed lesser than he did last year, but just to blame him is extremely ignorant and shows the football knowledge of this board.

gig. He's the 3rd highest paid CFB coach behind only Kirby Smart & Ryan Day. And they have very recent nat'l titles, and are again at the top of the polls. Dabo's titles are fading fast into the rearview mirror and we're currently unranked. Huge difference. And a new job will come with immediate sky-high expectations and no patience whatsoever. Hot seat day one if the team stumbles. He won't benefit from all the good will he's built up at Clemson.

The kids we're now recruiting for 2027 - they were in 2nd grade in 2018. They don't even remember our "glory days". We are nowhere near the hottest name brand in CFB like we used to be. And our big advantage in facilities that were the best in the country back then? ... not any more, everybody is spending a gazillion bucks to add pizazz and bling. I bet the new job comes with some stipulations, too. YOU WILL BY GOD USE THE PORTAL. LOL

And the aw shucks good ol boy charm won't get him too far at most schools. For the kind of money he'll want, it will totally be about results, period. They won't care that he spoke at their church on Wed night. And he can forget about bringing along his entourage of family & friends, they'll all have to go find real jobs. So be careful what you wish for Dabo. Might be jumping from the pan into the fire.

For “not feeling the criticism” his comments sure sounded defensive! He’s also smiling because he knows if we send him packing, he’ll loot the university’s coffers with his fat buyout. He’s got it made for life no matter what happens. Must be a nice position to be in. I’d be saying, “Bring on the criticism!” too! If he has to go coach somewhere else, it’s just gravy. This isn’t a “bad stretch” either. It’s been a recurring problem for years now. And he has no concrete answers. Just gets on the soapbox and blasts the fans for trying to hold his program accountable for the lack of output. You can’t rest on what you did 5-7 years ago. What have you done for us lately? Just like any company… If you don’t change and adapt to the times, you’ll get left in the dust, and that’s what’s happened to Dabo, unfortunately. His disdain for the “free agency” transfer portal in favor of “draft and develop” has clearly hurt us, as has his hubristic hiring of former players, family and friends (nepotism anyone??) rather than proven coaches and assistants with a history at D-1 schools. Looks like GR was a “flash in the pan” at TCU, and it’s too early to tell what Tom Allen will do. But early results have been underwhelming.

You also aren’t adapting to this new age. One of your top recruits are already looking to shop around and our DE’s are already no good.

Wake up a look in the mirror. Acknowledge that there are serious problems. Your pride is getting in the way. Now you’re getting mad that we expect more and threatening to go elsewhere? Instead of just saying man yall are right and we aren’t playing up to the standard I set. You are dealing with a Pride problem Dabo. Now I’m seeing why the program is slipping.

He has. Over and over again. Nothing satisfies you people. Yes they have looked inexplicably bad, yes it is disappointing, and yes they must improve. All nothing he hasn't acknowledged. Stop whining. Appreciate what we have, look forward to getting things corrected. And, before anyone says I am a sunshine bumper, don't even bother. I am as disgusted as all the whiners at their play thus far. Almost as disgusted as I am with all the whining.

That's what 98% of the fans want. Fans don't want Dabo to be fired or leave, we just want this team to play like their star-power suggests they should. We were supposed to have 4 first rounders and 2 more day 2-3 rounders follwed by a couple others that were expected to be drafted. With this much talent, why are we playing so poorly?

Dabo, tell us why this team is playing so uninspired and with zero passion? If this team acted like they wanted to be there and played like they were well coached but we lost then we as fans could digest that but the product has just been bad so far this season. Show us fans that we can play the game. There are teams with much less talent like GT that are playing like they want to be on the field and playing with passion.

Crux of the issue

10

Sep 16, 2025, 12:45 PM
Reply

This is the crux of the issue. Extremely high expectations vs. a coach that has grown an ego. While I don't see him being fired after this year unless things get extremely ugly, his antagonism to the fact his product is slipping, is slowly leading to irreconcilable differences. I'd prefer he owns to his failures and truly tries to adapt to the new landscape. There is some scumminess with NIL and portal, and the sometimes ugly nature of the new management style. However he must start swimming or the program will sink. He can still maintain most of his roster retention aspects. There is also proof in his words that the fire is not there like it once was. That is unacceptable for 11M per year. This is not headed in a good direction.

Just be open to the portal. If other teams can get better thru the portal and look better than us. Just imagine what clemson can do with portal guys. Other teams look tougher, faster, and better than Clemson right now. Again I support Dabo, but be open to the portal. If not, the recruits have to be tougher and ready to play. The people complaining are new to Clemson. Us oldies remember the bad ole days. Before the 2016 Natty, I was emailing back and forth with the editor of Rubbing the Rock. He said Dabo needed to win a national championship to be our greatest coach. I disagreed. He had made us competitive and had done it the right way, making Clemson the pattern for all of college football by insisting on the players having character and pushing graduation. If Dabo goes somewhere else, that team will become my favorite. If they do not win another game this year, Clemson is still the pattern all other teams should seek to emulate.

Today's world of Rec League, every one gets a prize has just ruined people and the failure to accept the fact that the 2 years we won with Deshaun, Trevor, ETN and all the NFL guys we had those years may never be duplicated. Instead of trashing Dabo, our coaches and players, check your ignorance at the door and put your ego in the bag hanging on that door. Look at the list of teams who have won the ACC and the National Championship since Dabo became head coach and you will understand what he is saying. Dabo is a winner, our program is a winner and we should be celebrating not crying.

I praised Dabo the other day by leaving fans out of it (I believe it was his Sunday comments) . This, however, is not ideal.

JMO, he needs to leave all the other crap out of his comments (they can send me on my way if they dont want me, etc...). It serves ZERO purpose. Doesn't help perception, recruiting, etc... I get being defensive--its natural, but it does not serve him well here--gotta find the strength to rise above that and sidestep the question or the urge to comment. Any PR professional will tell you that. Just say you and staff are working hard to fix the issues and appreciate the wonderful fan base at Clemson. LEAVE IT AT THAT. You know the deal coaching in big time CFB. All the national outlets have now picked up on his comments. Its just unnecessary---another self-inflicted wound for no reason.

And I will say this, I'm a season ticket holder at an SEC school and have been to almost every venue in the ACC & SEC and have prob attended 400-500 CFB games. Clemson has one of the best, if not THE BEST, fanbase in America. He's got it real good at Clemson. Control what you can control, fall on your sword and take the incoming. Hard to do in the moment I know...but best in the long run. I have seen this movie many times before....once a HC starts doing this regularly, it rarely ends well. I want CDS as my coach and I want him to fix the issues. Again, control what you can control.

Before you rake me over the coals, please see my previous post about Dabo. https://www.tigernet.com/clemson-forum/message/tldr----crossroads-37365601

My most experienced employee threatened to leave and go work for someone else when I counseled her for her time management and lack of training. I had a tough choice to make because she really knew her stuff, but the results weren't in line with her previous work. The team she was in charge of was slipping, people were making silly mistakes and she kept sweeping it under the rug. She didn't like that I called her out on it and became very difficult to work with, until she threatened to leave.

Needless to say, I fired her. It cost me greatly, as I had to scramble to get someone who was qualified to fill her position, unemployment taxes went up, and her contract had 14 months left. I paid way more than I needed to for an interim manager, but finally found the right fit. She was let go in October of 2024. 2025 has been our most profitable year since starting the company.

Being criticized sucks. Sometimes, it hits you in the feels, but you can't just go around stomping your feet and threatening the people that sign your checks. That isn't how I would want my children coached, not how I would raise my children, and certainly not how I would want my children to act in the public eye.

He got a pass 2 years ago, but it is time to grow up. He speaks of being 55, well it's about time to act like it.

I absolutely understand that. It may take two or three years to implement a new system, to get players and coaches to buy in, and to regain the recruiting foothold.

But that is going to happen WHEN Dabo leaves, regardless. Having someone in a position like that and allowing them to threaten leaving every time they hear something they don't like, you can't trust that the next time it won't just be an empty threat.

Dabo will leave one day, because the university will be around much longer than he will be coaching. I can add to RC‘s personal analogy. I sold a business a year ago, and we had absolutely killed it for five years in a row, I mean, killed it. Then one day my office manager came to me , after just receiving a raise and a nice Christmas bonus, and demanded more money or she was going to leave for a higher paying job. I was shocked and refused, because I don’t play that game, and she did leave. Things were never the same as she and I had a special synergy and worked together like a machine. we ended up losing our largest client and a couple others. the next couple years were down years, I lost my fire and passion for the business and find a buyer. Sometimes that’s just the way things go. I think that’s what we’re seeing with Dabo. That’s why he always talks about the past. I think he may feel that getting back to that mountaintop in the NIL era, is impossible.

I guess what Dabo has overlooked is that this team is/was National Championship caliber. This is the team that he has been building for the last 3 years and they are 1-2 and possibly out of the playoffs. No one, and I mean No one cares about the Mayo Bowl or Gator Bowl this year. We all expected more, but it seems that is where we are heading. Next, year I predict will be one of the worst years under Dabo with all the people leaving, hopefully I am wrong.

Clemson fan, IPTAY McFadden level, and disappointed in yet another juvenile display from Dabo. He cant handle some standard questions from the media. Quotes his victories and record, blah blah blah. Threatening to go somewhere else puts recruiting at risk. Measure of a man is how they deal with adversity, and he responds, as always, in a childlike fashion.

And, other coaches’ kids, gives out precious schollies, and positions? Not a good look..it just isn’t. The optics are horrendous…just like the ostentatious and gawdy 36 million sq foot house he built (Beverly Hillbilly style).

Personally? I love Dabo, and what he has built. I also don’t mind if Clemson isnt winning Nat’l championships all the time, or even ACC championships, so long as Clemson continues to bring in high character, high quality virtuous good boys and are competitive and win way more than they lose. I’m sure I’m in the minority on that.

But, Dabo sounds like a petulant child suggesting if he is unwanted, he’ll take his ball and go elsewhere.

It suggests that logic and rational thinking has been replaced with emotion; a total death wish.

More than that, it’s unnecessary. Dabo should have enough of a network established where these people could have opportunities to cross-pollinate and learn from other very capable leaders. Becomes a much bigger and more important issue as expectations, albeit unrealistic ones, continue while past success becomes more evasive. Just my .02 cents

Win or lose, put a team that plays with toughness, and heart, with an exciting style of play on the field.......very few will be "complaining".

Hold folks accountable when mistakes (constantly) happen. How long have we talked about dropped passes, missed blocks or missed tackles, (or terrible QB play) yet the SAME players stay on the field....there is never repercussions for those miscues. I am NOT saying jump down a kids throat, but give someone else a chance......to make a mistake and then replace them as well........you know, that whole coach/ leader type stuff.

Go Tigers!!!

I think Dabo is doing exactly what has done in the past. He is creating a diversion and taking the focus off the players and putting it on him. Remember the rant about Steve Spurrier?
