conference realignment and playoff expansion

Does anyone else think that a conference realignment that produces 4 conference with 16 teams each (Big 12 disappears) would remove the "need" to expand the playoff format?
Each conference would have 2 divisions. The 2 division winners play each other in the conference championship and the 4 conference champions are your 4 playoff teams.
This would add fewer games to the season and have the same end result.
It would also have the added benefit for the ACC of forcing ND into a conference.
Iowa state and Kansas to big 10
ND and WV to ACC
Baylor, Okla St, Kansas st and Texas Tech to Pac 12
TCU joins SMU and Houston's conference

I like your idea and would love for that to be the case, but the SEC wants 12 team playoff with the hope of getting 5-7 of their members in. Which in turn means more MONEY for them and their schools.

You might as well tread water in a 4 foot pool because your idea has already drowned.
There will be a 12 team playoff.

so, if we ended up with 4 conferences with 16 teams each, we will have 4 conference champs and then a 12 team playoff?
That would devalue the regular season, make for a very long season and make no sense.

If you do the CFP like that you leave out the other 64 or so teams not in one of the four 16-team power conferences.

how likely would it be that the national champ wouldn't be in the 64 teams in these 4 power conferences?

I would expand to 6-8 and create a conference semifinal via a 16 team pod system, personally.
