Conference Realignment

I basically spend my slow periods at work scouring the internet for news on how our court case is going and where our landing spot will be (lame I know).
That being said, can someone smarter than me explain where we are at? I cannot make sense of the legal documents and I'm seeing a lot of chatter on Twitter (mostly from @Genetics56) that FSU is a lock for the B1G but that we aren't yet because we haven't been "FOX approved".
Would love to get y'alls opinions on where we stand and where you think we'll end up

Anyone who really knows anything isn’t posting it on twitter or leaking that info IMO. So reading their “insider knowledge” is a waste of energy.
We’ll end up in the SEC or BIG, and in the end that won’t matter because it will all be one league that gets reorganized again. My feelings wouldn’t be hurt if we didn’t end up in either one because I don’t like the direction it’s going (NFL lite). I think there is still a ways to go but that could change at any moment if progress is made on any of the lawsuits.

Very fair point on the insider knowledge. Genetics claims to have that from high up B1G sources but I should probably read less into what he’s saying

I am curious about your NFL lite take. I also don’t love where it’s going but I think there could be some really high quality football in the P2

Oh it will definitely be higher quality than what those left behind end up looking like. Think of minor league baseball (new NFL lite) vs college baseball (those who get left behind). Not that either of those aren’t fun to watch, just talking about talent level.
But, if I want to watch pro ball I’ll just watch the NFL. I think those that are left out of the “power 2” will resemble more of what college athletics was meant to be. And I’m certainly not smarter - just my opinions.

Genetics has missed on prior calls on realignment, so take his word with a grain of salt.
Clemson would not have filed without a Power 2 offer. From a sports perspective, we would prefer the SEC. From an academic perspective, the Big 10. None of us know where the offer is, but if the SEC is the landing spot, I suspect we will have an easier exit as ESPN would retain the media rights.

I think people put way too much emphasis on academics. Given the sports are all professional now it matters not one bit how your perceived academic reputation is either enhanced or degraded by the sports conference you play in. And as others have said it will soon be one giant group of teams competing at the top, most corrupt level.

everything I read shows not much interest in Clemson which is crazy. NC, Virginia, GT to the SEC. FSU, Louisville, Duke, and maybe Miami to BiG10. Most say Clemson does not bring enough to either to add. Makes me worried.

That’s my fear as well but I just can’t understand why we would start this lawsuit if we didn’t have some sort of handshake agreement

The lawsuit was to force a ruling on who actually owns Clemson’s tv rights if Clemson leaves the conference. Clemson has clearly stated in the lawsuit that it is not currently resigning form the ACC.

And they filed this why?
You don't clarify this if you aren't planning to leave. If the court rules in Clemson's favor ANYONE can leave with a smallish penalty. That would not be a good thing if you were planning on staying. You also wouldn't want to pay legal fees for a 'clarification' if you don't plan on leaving.
Clearly, Clemson is planning an exit very soon.

Clemson athletics cannot survive long term if forced to stay in the ACC. All the AD is doing now is trying to get a read on an actual exit cost. I believe that Clemson has already stated that financially they are fine for two more years then will be in trouble. I am starting to think that within the next two years football is going to breakaway with a new division. Look for Dabo’s prediction to become a reality. The top teams that want to compete will have a different division with different rules.

I read an article about FSU. Need to find the link. Seems FSU may have an agreement with BIG and BIG wants another school to pair. There preference is 1. ND 2. TAM and 3. Clemson (with 1/2 share) in that order. I don't believe Sankey when says done expanding. No worries, Clemson will land in SEC or BIG.

Yeah, my question too. That’s one issue where these BIG “insiders” lose me. That makes zero sense. They have no clue.

I agree but they left the Big12 because of Texas and I don't think the feeling has changed. Oh and the B10 will provide an easier path to the playoffs (which Aggies so dearly desire)

I think this is more about the Big10 wanting true national footprint. They can provide A&M a bigger media payout than the SEC moving forward with FSU, ND, and that Texas viewing region. I would not be surprised the Big10 is reminding A&M why they wanted to be in a conference without the Longhorns.

Why would Clemson accept a half share? Once again it does not seem either the BIG or the SEC value Clemson

Let's make a team up from a beer league and we will stand a better chance of getting into the SEC than Georgia Tech will. Seriously??? GT?? What have you been drinking?

If the ACC decides to drag this out before finally settling, which they seem intent on doing, this is going to take some time. And I’m also not seeing any big support from either the SEC or B1G to bring us in.
I think we are in for a long, drawn out process and uncertain outcome.

Clemson has demanded a July ruling, which is significant because we have to announce any intention to leave the ACC by August 15th. That is our plan. We want to be playing in another conference for the 2025 season. Also, Clemson knows they have a spot in the Power 2. This pony show wouldn’t be happening if we weren’t supremely confident.

Exactly. You will hear nothing right now from either conference re. any specific school. Legally they cannot have any direct contact with other schools. But 3rd party negotiations and talks are taking place. Clemso and FSU has a spot . I don't really care which, but I think we would do better in BIG and would make more money.

All law suits are between court hearings. They are going through the tedious process of filings and briefs and responses, etc. I don't even know when the next court dates are.
I think the next ruling by the courts in FL, SC and NC is the venue. Where will the lawsuits be held?
But, the primary thing I continually remind myself is this: The real negotiations are going on behind closed doors. The parties are Clemson, FSU, UNC, ACC, SEC, B1G, Big 12, Fox, ESPN.
All of us can speculate as to what these negotiations are and how they will turn out. But, we would all be speculating.

I just read about the BIG12 bringing in Clemson and FSU for their 2025 expansion and renegotiate $$$$$$$. Wonder what they can get for per team payout if they bring in FSU, Clemson and let's say NC, Duke, Virginia, and GT?

If A&M becomes the 20th Big10 team, then I could see the SEC polishing off their SE regional expansion with Clemson, UNC, and UVA. The barrier of exit is not formidable for SEC teams as I understand it. They can take their media rights with them as the SEC didn’t anticipate a member would care to leave. A&M’s history with Texas might be that one circumstance where a desire to leave matches with the Big10’s growth interests. Crazy times.
