For the 1963 game against Ga Tech, the team went down to Atlanta on Friday as usual in 2 buses. Coach Howard would separate the team in each bus. The first team players, and coaches would take one bus and the remaining team (the others as Coach Howard called them), managers, etc would take the second bus. On the way down I-85, the first team bus broke down, and Coach Howard made the guys on the 2nd bus get out, and had the people from the first bus switch. They second team guys stayed there on the interstate until the bus company sent a replacement
I remember that happening. That was my first road game and I believe it was a rainy day in hotlanta.
I also remember from that trip eating at a restaurant that was really weird. On display in this restaurant was a huge number of ax handles on the wall. I had no idea who Maddox was until sometimes later when he made the national news displaying his hate. America has come a long way since 1963!
