Wow 🧡 💜!!!
I'm no legal expert by any stretch but aside from the extra cash, we have extra veto/voting power. Wonderful. Imo, yeah fsu wins too but I think the acc understands we could lose fsu but if the acc loses Clemson, it's all over for the other schools.
Personally, I really want to see the acc stay together and be the best conference. For the most part, the acc schools share our values to remain student athletes.

Agree totally. I never wanted to see Clemson leave the ACC, but rather strengthen the ACC. I wanted us to pressure (if that's possible) Notre Dame to join the conference in football, along with Stanford. I still think there is a chance that we can become a more competitive conference in all sports.

Read the following and was still not satisfied, even though it bodes well for Clemson.
It’s like Clemson is basically the co-owner of the ACC
““The settlement is remarkably “one-sided” in favor of Clemson, he said.“
“Parts of the settlement essentially give Clemson veto power over some ACC decisions, McKenzie said, which creates a “two-tier membership structure where Clemson has greater rights than others” on some fundamental matters. “That’s extraordinary by any measure,” he said.”

The ACC has always had a two tiered leadership structure. In the past, the NC schools were tier 1 and the rest were tier 2. The fact that they agreed to this speaks well of our market value in the marketplace. IMO, we will still jump hip for the B10 one day, but it is nice to be in control for a few years until that happens

Pretty impressive.. the real question is it better to leave the ACC conference say by 2030 to another conference, that will treat us like a red headed step child for a number of years? Is that the best move for Clemson or staying in the ACC? Go Tigers!!💪💪

Who knows? Right now we’re a big fish in a small pond. If we leave we’ll be an average fish in a bigger pond, but we’ll be fed well. Just remember… there’s always a bigger fish.

See Texas. They were the Big Fish in the Big 12 for years. When Texas said jump the Big 12 said "How High" As college football changed they moved to the SEC where they are doing pretty well so far.
The ACC is just not IT for football. Never has been. Poor leadership, unwillingness from our ACC brothers to invest in football- all they care about is basketball.

Many will be happy with the restructuring because it makes it easy to leave

and hope that we will leave at that next offer. I wonder (even though it is risky) if it is not also good for the ACC for Clemson and FSU to have that leverage. The GOR was good at keeping the ACC together, but with how long it was going to last, it wasn't good for the ACC to negotiate new rates for the conference with ESPN. Now that Clemson and FSU can leave, if ESPN wants to keep them and not be holding the bag of a very weak ACC, they need us to stay in the ACC. I am hoping that gives the ACC enough leverage to negotiate more aggressively at the next opportunity.
What say y'all?

6 of the largest brand schools left the Big 12 because of Texas's leverage in that conference. The ACC will be the same. We should get out as quick as we can before we are stuck with a bunch of leftovers and more promoted group of 5 schools like Texas was in the Big 12.

A two tiered conference means we are in a crappy conference and we need to

get out as soon as the numbers jive. Maybe by the late 2020's there will be the Super Conference where all major programs will join.
It means that there are members in the conference who do not care much about athletics, yes they have them but they really don't want to invest like they need to in order to be competitive.
As long as we have those members, then the ACC will be relegated to something less than the Power conferences, but more than the lower.

This all boils down to money. Clemson athletics cannot survive long term staying in the ACC. There is a reason the GOR levels out at 2030. I believe that the ACC knows some of the schools will be gone in a handful of years and has stabilized the situation until then. I also believe that the SEC and B1G cannot add any new schools until 2030 so the settlement was a win win for Clemson, FSU, and the ACC.

To me, the exit fees ($75-$150 million) will deter ACC members from leaving, unless they have a guaranteed membership in the B1G or SEC. Even then, we might find it difficult to come up with that amount of money for the exit.

Just so you know, Maryland paid $31M to leave the ACC for the B1G, instead of the $52M the ACC was seeking.

This is a HUGE win for Clemson....One thing that's almost certain: "IF" we are going to leave the ACC, it probably won't happen until 2030 when the exit fee drops and all of the TV contracts are up for re-negotiation...surely not a coincidence. And, we now have veto power. Very, very advantageous settlement. I think the ACC wanted to avoid potential embarrassment by having the original GOR document go public and decided to settle with a lot of concessions. I can't think of any other scenario that makes sense.

Agreed about not wanting the GOR or anything relevant going public. Either ESPeNis/ACC knew it wouldn’t hold up in court or there was some stuff they didn’t want anyone to know about. This was a major, major, MAJOR win for Clemson and FSU. I believe the B1G tv contract is up in 2030. I think the SEC tv deal goes through 2033 or 2034. As a Buckeye fan, I am all for the B1G going south to get FSU, Clemson, and maybe NC. It would be even better if the B1G could get jettison some current schools that bring absolutely nothing to the conference and just free load.

I think if the GOR document went public, it would have been a major PR disaster for both the ACC and ESPN. Thus, a great settlement for Clemson/FSU. I don't see any other, rational explanation.
I still think Clemson belongs in the SEC, I don't see any natural rivalries in the B1G.

I'm not a lawyer, but it sounds like a big win for Clemson! Good job, Graham Neff. Additionally, the discussion regarding the redactions made due to "trade secrets" in dealing with ESPN is interesting.
Thanks for posting, Pig!

What's up with leaving for football but staying in the ACC for the other sports? The SEC and Big will NEVER let that happen like letting Notre Dame taking advantage of the ACC with one sport only. It will be all sports or nothing with either of the P2.

Give those FSU guys some kudos for standing up to the slings and arrows...fighting for venue, getting a friendly Florida judge...shrugging off the bad publicity > They did not care. It was do or die whether anybody joined with them or not.
FSU and Clemson were like Butch and Sundance standing on the bluff overlooking the river...FSU and Clemson held hands and jumped
