Clemson baseball and Bakich

10

Mar 19, 2023, 4:39 PM

I’m honestly not surprised. This program has not been very good for a while. I think it was unrealistic to think that Bakich would come in and work a miracle in his first year. We just don’t have enough pieces.

Yes, yes, yes! I know. He said we had a lot of talent. He said physically. But from the neck up this team needs a lot of work!

I think Bakich is the real deal and he clearly loves Clemson and knows the potential of this program. I think if Clemson fans are patient he will not only take us back to Omaha, but I truly think he will win us a CWS championship! But folks, it’s going to take two or three seasons to get this program back on track. Be patient!

It’s not easy at this level. The biggest coach hire from last season has the same record as we do. Link Jarrett and FSU is 12-8 also. So it’s not just changing coaches. I do like the fight we have. We don’t quit.

Dominic college baseball programs have superior coaching.

Programs rise and fall based on head coaching changes.

Not in 1 year is what I’m saying. FSU started out ranked in the top 15 because they hired a new coach. But they got swept by UCF like we did only in a 2 game series. They are 12-8 also. I think RlEB can right the ship.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Of course, it doesn’t happen in one year.

Mar 19, 2023, 11:59 PM

But that moron was saying coaching really doesn’t matter. That changing coaches doesn’t make much of a difference in college baseball. That’s just stupid! College athletics is all about coaching and support from the administration. And of course recruiting, which is down stream of coaching and administrative support.

All I know is changing coaches in baseball at our level rarely makes a difference because most of the teams are fairly even. There are so many kids that play baseball all their lives that every pretty much major college in the South has equal talent.

God, you get so much wrong all the time because you have no perspective.

You don’t know history. Data and history do not support your comment. South Carolina was never much in baseball. They had a few good seasons under June Raines but with Ray Tanner they were the best program in the country. When Tanner retired they went to crap. Georgia Tech was great until Fraser went to Miami. Look at the all time great programs like Texas, Florida State, Miami, Southern Cal, Arizona, and Arizona state, etc. etc., they have been great or mediocre to bad depending on the coach. Vanderbilt was nothing before Corbin. Chal Port turned the citadel into a very respectable baseball program and even took them to the college World Series. Then they went to crap when he retired. You would understand this if you were older and been around for 30 or 40 years.

I agree with most everything you said. The one thing I don't agree with is when you gave Valley Coot any credit for having one active brain cell. He ain't got none.

You’re talking about knowledge. Book knowledge. That’s not the same thing as wisdom and experience. If you don’t have wisdom and experience and weren’t there to see it, you’ll never truly understand.

Plenty of people have read about woody Hayes or Danny Ford, Charlie Pell and plenty of others. But you have no context no perspective no nuance and none of the emotions if you weren’t actually alive and following Clemson during that time.

Anyone can go to the library and read books. That’s not the same thing as being there seeing it happen and living through it.

Using your logic, you can understand Pearl Harbor or Auschwitz just by reading about it in a book. That’s beyond dumb!

I would argue that, if the talent level is equal,

Mar 20, 2023, 7:54 AM [ in reply to Re: Clemson baseball and Bakich ]

then coaching is the difference.

History has proven repeatedly

Mar 21, 2023, 10:40 AM

that coaching is more important than talent. A great coach will beat mediocre or bad coaching even if that team has better talent.

Look at Clemson football the past two years. We haven’t played anyone with more talent. But we have gotten repeatedly outcoached.

Do you think Louisville or South Carolina or Loyola or Boston College have more talent than Clemson basketball this season? Brownell couldn’t coach his way out of a wet paper bag.

Yep a reason they let ML go. He was lacking in a lot of areas and honestly missed on quite a few players.

Lee got far to much credit for bringing in Beer. All prior coach and we were very lucky not to lose him.

Anyone who thinks Leggett wouldn’t have gotten Beer and Okey to Omaha is out of their minds. And we also lost Cal Raleigh (who has since made it to the majors) specifically because of firing Leggett.

Clemson doesn't care about basketball....as evidenced by Brown-L getting 14 years.

He’s the best coach Michigan ever had in a region of the country

Mar 19, 2023, 6:23 PM

That has freezing temperatures half of the baseball season. They don’t play much baseball in the Midwest. Baseball used to be at the college level dominated by Southwest and West Coast colleges. Today it’s dominated by the south because of the change in demographics. That’s why a while back South Carolina had seven or eight schools make, the NCAA baseball tournament. Baseball in the south is like basketball in Kentucky, Indiana, Kansas, and inner cities. This is the same reason so many Midwestern college football programs like Nebraska, and Penn State, and even Michigan have struggled over the last 30 to 40 years. The south is where the majority of the best players are now. As the south has grown, and the demographics have changed, the south dominates college football and baseball.

From my perspective, the team looks much more

fundamentally sound on defense and swinging the bats. At this point, we leave too many men on base and the pitching is atrocious. That's not going to change this year.

Everyone needs to calm down and relax! This coach is coming into a mixed bag of returning players, transfers and new recruits. Its going to take him a while to sort them all out and really understand just what he has here. Its just too soon to make any credible comments! Just sit back, take it all in, and see how this all develops during the course of the entire season! I am trusting that by the end of the season we will have seen remarkable improvement from this team with many adjustments being made, and particularly with respect to his pitching staff usage! I for one am optimistic!
