He was just in the game--made the play but charged with a facemask.

He was starting, got injured and then the current DE is playing lights out. Sort of like, best player plays, not, the player who has a big heart and has paid his dues.

This is what Gruden said about Ferrell. “He’s been having some back ailments. His time’s coming. He’ll return to the lineup probably this week. Hopefully he’s feeling better and can get back to his form that he had earlier last year and his rookie season.”

Back injuries don’t heal like a sprained finger. Prior to that he had a shoulder injury. I hate it when people belittle someone when they are dealing with things you don’t know about.

I honestly don't think Judge follows football very closely.

He just likes to try and trash football because, well you know, basketball...
He actually said Tony Elliott hasn't earned $2M a year after the 6 greatest years in Clemson football history, but then he says Brad Brownell is doing more with less while getting paid $2.6M. You can't make this stuff up.

No, I don’t think Tony Elliott is earning his $2 million this year.

Not even close.
If you think he is earning his $2 million salary this year, then you are a huge homer.
I like Tony, and was glad we made him sole OC when Scott took the USF job. It made sense to me, and I think a lot of him. But if we are honest, being successful with generational talent against subpar competition doesn’t prove that he is the best offensive coordinator in college football. Our dismal results this year has caused me to question his abilities.

You're ignoring 6 years and focused on 5 games, where

you can't decide if it's coaching or execution of the key player on the field. Yet again, you can't ignore 6 years for 5 games, and actually think you're making a logical claim.
We have more elite wins than anyone except Alabama, and we have the 2nd most playoff wins in the CFP era. Our overall schedule compares with anyone when you consider all games, and being the #2 team in the country over the CFP era was completed against all teams considered. Oklahoma for instance is considered an elite team, but they never win playoff games. We're #2 on the list. They are still elite. Ohio State finally beat us in the playoffs for their first win against us. They're still elite. Who else is there Judge? NOBODY.
You can trot out whatever players you want, but they don't win on an elite level without coaching. You have to be a special kind of ignorant to suggest our players reached all these accolades on their own.
But then again, we know you're trying way to hard. You can't ignore 6 years of unprecedented program success and being the #2 team in the land, then suddenly question abilities based on 5 games where you also agree the primary reason for our struggles is QB who can't get out of his own head.
You actually think Brad Brownell has earned his $2.6M while Tony Elliott hasn't earned his $2M. That speaks volumes about your lack of solid positioning here. You're tying way too hard to drag down the football program, and you're talking out both sides of your mouth and making things up as you go.Being #2 and having a $2M salary is a match. Being usual sub-tournament team with a $2.M salary is not a match.
Get a grip. It won't be long before you dig out the same tired excuses for us not achieving at the $2.6M level in basketball. That is 38th in the country I believe. 3 tournaments in 11 years with only one year advancing, that's not 38th and $2.6M.

How am I belittling Clelin to say that he’s been a disappointment based on his draft position and salary?
He was the 4th overall pick in the 2019 draft.
He signed a 4 year, $31 million contract, including a $20 million signing bonus.
In two seasons, he has had 35 tackles and 6.5 sacks.
Some people have called him a draft bust.
Taking off your orange-tinted glasses, you don’t think that is disappointing?

Is there a reason for bashing Ferrell?

You know he is one of our guys? He has been hurt. You cannot be explosive with a back injury particularly if it is lumbar or sacral. As soon as you exert force with a push or even a step in some cases- it can stab you like a hot poker…then it gets where any movement sets it off…then it just hurts at a mid level of pain with same acute symptoms. It takes time-unfortunately. His playing difficulties match the symptoms of his injury. There is no quit in that kid.

Ferrell is a very good player but don’t think he ever should have been taken #4. I think most on here feel Wilkins and DLawernce were truly elite DLineman. Ferrell was very good but not elite. Should have been late 1st rd or early 2nd rd. If he can get/stay healthy he should have a solid NFL career.

This is it right here. I try not to bad mouth any of our guys, but Cle was over-drafted by a good bit. He wasn't gonna give you the production of a top 5 pick.

honestly had he been a Duke Blue Devil he wouldn't have been a first rounder. Its a good problem to have for these guys IMO. Huge expectations but at least you get that guaranteed signing bonus money. Thats why Ross i hope gets a little spring in his step and doesn't pisss it away. He could be a first rounder just b/c he's a Clemson guy but at this point he's a 3rd rounder at best. Ross is the type of guy that could take over like Sammy used to..but he has to want that.

You ever try playing football with back ailments? Didn't think so. Gruden said the back issues have been inhibiting Clelin from his 2nd year, but he expects his time is coming once he returns to health. I'm going with his head coach on this one.

Countless NFL DE's have made the pro bowls with bad backs. You don't really need a healthy back when your trying to fight your way through 320lb DTs
No, Clelin hasn't yet fit the #4 pick, but Gruden says his time is coming once his health comes back to 100%. I'll take his word for it. Clelin did have 38 tackles and 4.5 sacks his only healthy year; not pro bowl numbers but not time to count him out either.

Especially when they played him WAY put of position in many sets last year. I watched several games where he was lined up as a DT. Yeah, not so much. And frankly the other DE they got in the same draft class has played pretty well from what I recall. Either way, he's a great dude and I'm happy he is getting paid.

Everyone has an opinion and I respect that. I just try to speak positively about former Tigers when something is brought up about one of them. I believe former Tiger players take a special valuable mindset from their time here whatever they do later. I did quote Gruden accurately above and he sounded like he understands about the back injury and Clelin's potential and good past play. Go Tigers.

Needs a different gear, too slow in regards to a pass rusher. He was rated/drafted too high but Crosby was the gem as a 4th round pick. Night and day difference between the two.
