You guys b!tch about taxing the rich, now you whine about taxing the poor. You complain about deficits, then you complain about revenue. What you NEVER do is offer up a plan to balance the budget.

They love spending. Trump loved spending. They don't care about defects. They are MAGA now and the deficits were something the old Repubs used to focus on. Those days are long gone.

Factoid for Misinformed Dems: Trump spent, but NOTHING like Dumb Joe.....and, wait for it........ Trump brought more prosperity to America (esp. minorities (HBCU) and the 'little guys') than Odumbo and Brandon together.
I suggest your proofread your spelling (deficits, not defects) and facts before you spew comedy embarrassing to you. Miura

Someday we will be forced to go without cash and everything will be digital. They need to track our money in order to tax us more.

The IRS wants businesses to report when they people using Venmo for transactions over $600 via 1099's so that the IRS can ensure people are claiming that income on their tax filings.
Why would anyone have a problem with that? Businesses do that already when they cut a check or make an ACH payment. What's the difference?
Frankly, I like that the IRS is trying to make sure people that are paid in cash transactions are claiming that income on their tax returns.

It's enforcing the taxes that people are supposed to be paying. I'm usually not going to have a problem with the government trying to accurately enforce law.
This would be similar to setting up more speed traps to catch speeders. If you're speeding, it's your fault, not theirs for enforcing it. If you owe taxes on Venmo transfers, that's on you, not on the government.

I'd like to know how they originally came up with the 1099k
Dec 1, 2022, 10:15 AM

threshold of $20,000 for the 1099k, when I thought it had always been $600 for a 1099 misc.
This is mostly about the growth of the gig economy, uber drivers, task rabbit etc. Those industries have grown so much that over the last few years that it has displaced revenue from more traditional businesses. I'm curious to know how much tax revenue they are expecting from this deal.
I'm for everyone paying their fair share, but it's pretty obvious where the intent is coming from: they have some massive bills to pay.
"The proposal was offered as a way to help pay for a $3.5 trillion social spending bill that would invest in climate programs, child care and education."

maximize revenue on all fronts.
I can't prove it...but it's my suspicion that there is a huge amount of income not being claimed by those who operate in the cash world...service staff, lawn care, etc... and it ought to be something that's addressed.

I scanned the article and saw this:
Dec 1, 2022, 10:29 AM
|
|
"When Congress passed the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, it included a provision that reduced the reporting threshold to a single transaction over $600."
I possibly took it out of context...

As of now, Zelle says that they won't have to report. Good news for me since the ex wife uses Zelle to pay child support.
Although, child support isn't taxable, I'm not really looking forward to jumping through hoops to prove it's child support when the IRS comes calling.
