To see how your circle J number was arrived at, plug in the size of your member to this algorithm.

I can already see it is a flawed process as Bob has a 63 and Judge only a 57.

I see many flaws in your algorithm. For example,e=e+11 is wrong. Throws the whole thing out of wack.

This thread and two cans of Wernesgruner got me thinking how easy kids have it today.

Before my day, folks did complicated math on their fingers, and the smart ones also used toes.

We had logarithms.

You can do complicated math with these, but it is slow.

At Clemson we had slide rules. These are not as accurate as logarithms but are quick and get you in the ball park. Having one attached to your belt was a source of pride. There was a night class on the advanced use of one.
I used these in the Army to call in Artillery fire and missile placement.

Now the basic calculator that cost $3 makes everyone a math whiz.

Hardest thing about the slide rule was placing the decimal point.

I arrived at CU about the time that the TI-30 arrived, thus sparing me from the horrors of the slide rule. I did get to write code in FORTRAN on punch cards, however.

Meant to add, you haven’t lived until you’ve managed memory with COMMON blocks.

I received one of those Amazon calculators in the mail today! It sure is small, but I guess I shouldn't complain for $2.99... :)

This appears to be a problem from my freshman physics class. I’m pretty certain… I should know as I took it twice…. Then switched from a BS to a BA.

That should become the official TNet slang for it.
Do you remember reading the Camping thread? You are the Tnet historian.
It was before my day as a member. I will try to find it.
