Chuck Berry at Clemson?

Are there any other old timers around here tonight? Do y'all remember Chuck Berry performing at Clemson in the old Fike Field House? I think 1967.. I loved that you could get right up to the stage in those days and actually speak to the performers.

He played Littlejohn in the early 70's.....I believe the notoriously cheap Berry hired some kids from Seneca as his band that evening

I saw him at Littlejohn Coliseum sometime in either '73 or '74, I believe. Though a long time ago, I remember it as a fun time and good show. He could command an audience regardless of who he had backing him. He played all the hits. I believe a ticket cost about $7 or so for a concert at that time. Also saw the Doobie Brothers, Beach Boys, Leon Russell, the Edgar Winter Group, and many others at Littlejohn. Great times back at Clemson in those days.

With the mention of the Sunshine's or the blotter, I wonder that myself. That was way to bright and scattered out there for me. I did the light weight stuff, I liked coming back by the next morning!!!

Went to see Cheech and Chong at Littlejohn in the early 70's

The warm-up band was someone nobody ever heard of, but they were awesome. The crowd booed when they left the stage and Cheech and Chong came out. They played this awesome song called...
Free Bird. And that was the first time that I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd in concert.

That was a couple weeks after the Chuck Berry concert and Marshall Tucker followed Skynyrd if I remember correctly.

At Chuck's concert as well. Other notable performers were Marshall Tucker, Rare Earth, Rod Stewart, and Deep Purple.

If I recall correctly, he played at Littlejohn in the fall of 1973. Rufus and Marshall Tucker opened for him. I believe he used bass, keyboard and drummer from Rufus as his backing band.

WE got this concert because of dumassery at USeC. The AD down there kiboshed them coming to Columbia making this memorable quote " next thing you know we'll have tractor pulls....Not as long as I am AD" (a paraphrase of course) Good ole King Dixon....
