I think Duke this year is an example of how big a difference a QB can make. Mensah is arguably the best addition out of the portal and definitely the best portal QB. He is the only difference between Duke going 8-4 or 9-3 this year vs. 3-9 or 4-8. Its about a 5 game swing. If you replace Cade, at least early Cade with Mensah, we beat LSU and GT. Our D is bad anyway you slice it, but the quit and lack of effort reared it's head after GT

Dabo isn't getting a portal QB lol. It should be beyond obvious that he doesn't like to admit he's wrong. They recruited CV and that's gonna be his guy no matter what.

Duke and Ole Miss did well with portal QBs. Last year GT did well getting Haynes King. I think portal recruiting is just another area that teams need to do well in or risk having their competitors do well in and using it to beat them. It’s a second chance at major college football for some players and a second chance at building a team for some schools.

florida state just did an amazing job with their portal qb last year (and rest of the team)
unc is tearing it up this year with their 70 new players too

I mean you can say that, but then I can sit here and counter with Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Texas A&M who all had pretty high portal use as well. Using the portal works.

Question: What do these two groups have in common and how are they different?
A-Mensah, Pavia, King, Mendoza, Chambliss, Morris
B-Castellano, Beck Lonergan, Arnold...maybe not so much.
Answer: Both A and B are portal QB quarterback,
: Group A would be considered portal successes,
: Group B, not so much
Point: Like HS recruiting there are both HITS and MISSES. They both don't come with guaranteed winning!

I believe Raiola signed with Nebraska directly out of Buford S in GA, so he should not be considered A TP QB.

If you find a successful QB and say he came out of the portal, that may be true.
DJU also came out of the portal...
and many other QBs have portaled and haven't done great.

in regards to whether or not Dabo is serious about changing his ways. There is absolutely no reason we shouldn't be going after the top QBs every year unless we already have one of our own.
Having Vizzina start next year without even going after top portal QBs would indicate, to me, Dabo still doesn't get it.
Don't get me wrong, Vizzina looked fine against SMU. You could even say he's earned a chance to start next year given how competent he looked.
In this era of college football, you can't think like that, though. You have to constantly be thinking about how can the roster's talent can be maximized because that is what every other team is doing. If you don't think that way, you end up with teams like Duke having players on their roster better than your guys in key positions.
I personally think Dabo and the staff now realize the old ways of thinking aren't going to work any more. He's seen the rest of the conference catch up talent-wise through use of the portal.
I think going into this season, he truly believed we had a top-5, championship caliber team, as did much of the national media. That clearly isn't the case though, and I think he now understands things have to change.

I'm confident that Dabo will add a quarterback. The question is whether it will be for a projected starter or for competition/backup for Vizzina.
