the 5 power 5 conference champs are automatic inclusions. Each conference season is then a defacto playoff to get in. In addition, there should be a rule that if you can't win your own division, you are automatically disqualified. That would put an end to alot of this talk about polls and style points and get it back to "on the field" results.

Be careful what you wish for there buddy. If FSU gets it turned around and returns to juggernaut status, yearly battling with us for the division championship in OT wife-right type games. I’m gonna be mighty cheesed off when 3-loss division champ Utah gets a nod as one of the 8 “best” teams.

In basketball it’s never the best teams with automatic bids. I don’t think automatic bids in football should exist.
It works the way it is. The best team has won the Natty every year since the 4 team playoffs began! Plus the other bowls fanbases depend on it.

that expanded field of 8 then conferences could eliminate divisions and have a regular season champion instead - better regular seasons and fan experiences are the big winner there.
3 at-large, max 3 total from any conference (i.e. all at-larges can't be from single conference), no G5 guarantee - have to at-large it in with the rest.
Top 4 seeds host first round - 2nd weekend of December - 2 week break after rivalry weekend. For those who say a Bama / LSU game would lose its luster under this type of deal, the winner would likely host a game and the loser would travel if they made the 8. A lot at stake there. Losers of 1st round go on to play in a NY6 bowls with "the first 4 out" 3 weeks later.

You only take conference champions, but give ND a free pass as one of the three. I say a runner up in a division of the winner could be in it. However, it meets the other team in the finals if both make it.

The SEC took 2/3rds of last year's playoff payoff. If it expands to 8 teams there's a good chance that the SEC can get even a bigger share. That's wrong and exactly why ESPiN is pushing for expansion.
You guys need to wake up and realize this is about money nothing else. We get the real national champion with four teams, leave well enough alone.

winner of that game and the SEC, ACC, and Big10 go to the playoffs.
Finally admit that the group of 5 has no chance.
