I'm tired of this narrative. I did a bunch of research and found that over 75% of college programs including top teams have family and friends in positions. It's not like the normal business world for sure but it's common.

It doesn't say that it means all of those people are good or competent. But the reasoning was that as people rise in ranks they bring people they trust that helped them get there....

So in its self, family and friends isn't the issue. It's competency of those family and friends.

As an example.... look at OSUs coaching staff. Yes, there are a lot of former players, but focus on the Assistant Coaches (not position coaches... the level below the position coaches like Asst OL coach). All of them have multiple years of coaching at different schools. They left Ohio State after being a GA, went out in the world, proved they could coach and came back.
