Can someone explain why the breakup with Rick Barnes and Clemson

Happened? I’m not exactly sure what happened behind closed doors so anything would be appreciative.
TIA

Really just gossip. No one knows for sure but the admin, him, his wife, and the cheer leader.

All you need to know is that he burned the bridge to the piling on his way out of town. Don’t care how many wins he had not a Clemson man.

He also said that one of the reasons he was leaving was that S.C. public schools sucked, and his kids would get a better education in Texas.(Paraphrasing, but that was the jist of it.)It’s like he tried to #### off as many people as possible on his way out.

His wife said that. And not true - the schools his kids were going to would be blue ribbon if they had that program back then. Consider the source and the gist of the rumors. As someone else said he is not a Clemson man.

He left because it was easier to win at Texas...period...Not because a millionaire was worried about public schooling

The reason he gave for leaving was with Duke and North Carolina it was a futile situation to stay at Clemson.

This was not too long after he said he was going to stay at Clemson for the rest of his coaching career.

Sounds like from all the posts Barnes had a lot of so called “reasons “ for leaving - and just threw them all against the wall to see what would stick ....

Many reasons lead to Barnes leaving and some were mutual between him and Clemson but the biggest reason - MONEY! The university wouldn't pay him what he thought he was worth. Clemson threw up that the school is a state university and he fired back calling B.S. and then end of story.

Barnes left on bad terms, but I think it was his wife that was griping about the school systems. But, to be honest, Texas is a better job than Clemson in basketball. In fact, MANY schools are better than Clemson in basketball. I wish I could say that that will change one day, but I don't think it will.

Pretty sure Rick seen Dabo in the early stages of building something special here and he didn't want to compete with that. Shyatt was more versital in his expectations for this program

Was his appreciation for the fairer sex. Not saying it was the only factor in his leaving, but it was definitely a contributor.
Old girlfriend and I used to work in a restaurant together while at Clemson. Rick brought the team in for dinner one night and she was his waitress. He was interested in developing a personal relationship outside the restaurant is the kindest way to describe it...
Clemson does have the best looking women, but not sure moving to a different college town could fix his wandering eye. Rumor on campus at the time was his wife caught him with someone and said they had to leave Clemson or get divorced.

were the real reasons, they were just contributing factors.
The reality is, at the time he was a hot commodity and was a climber in the coaching ranks. I think he saw an easier path to winning conference titles and NCAA tourney bids in the BIG XII where Kansas was the only blue blood program. I think he did feel that the NC Triangle schools were at an advantage particularly Duke and UNC. I'm also not sure that he ever viewed Clemson as more than a stepping stone to a better job. In addition he was going to lose the core of the team that had been to 3 straight NCAA tourneys and I think he knew that the team would struggle to compete at the same level the following year so he struck while the iron was hot. Had he stuck around and had a mediocre season I think his leverage for another job would have dropped.
I'm not sure what the offer was, but at the time I'm sure Texas was capable of offering more money than Clemson.
