In the end, this is no different than falling down "injured" ... right now, the rule is you stop the game. And the rule on subs is ... if offensive subs, defense can sub as much and as slowly as they like (there is no real limits articulated in the rules that I'm aware of.) So, hard to blame a coach for using a legal way to slow an offense down. They need to fix the rule ... int he meanwhile, SC should stop subbing if they want to control the tempo.

Exactly right. SC subbed twice on that play, and that opened the door for Illinois to do the same.

I believe it was the darling of the SEC, Nick Saban, who insisted that the defense be allowed to subsitute in response to offensive subbing.
