Sideline? I don’t know. Just asking. If he was up there, he had a perspective. If he was low, he had a different \ player perspective. I’m curious and don’t know. It always seemed to me BV was getting info from upstairs and he could see it clearly from the sideline and relay everything to the MIKE and things went accordingly. Don’t hate. I just dont know the situation.

Why would he not use his skill then of identifying the situation from the box and utilize someone on the ground? Scratching my head on this. I wasn’t sure where he was, I just assumed he was in the box.

Perhaps to grow as a field coach? He doesn’t have very much experience with what’s happening on the sideline and also help him connect with his linebacker group. Maybe he eventually decides to back to the box.

I’ve had a theory that Goodwin might be more adept at decoding the opponent from the booth. That’s how he’s seen the game unfold for years. He’s made some good adjustments in recent games but not until into the second quarter or after the half.

That’s what I’m saying! He has an eye for it from the booth. Why not use his ability and find a sideline guy ( ala Scott/ Elliot)

Apparently Wes made halftime adjustments that paid off.

Was he a super duper lights out DC in his first year as a DC? No. He was CO- Defensive Coordinator for about 5 years when he finally got the reins in 2004.
There is a learning curve even for the best of the best. Yes, WG had a near full cupboard of defensive stars when he took over but what he didn't have was proven commodities in the secondary where we've struggled the most. Do you think for one second that our defensive numbers wouldn't be far greater if we had Andrew Booth, Mario Goodrich and Nolan Turner in the secondary this year.
I think WG has done an admirable job. I think the best is ahead of him.

I agree but, his best route would to be upstairs. ( the nfl does it all the time). I think he’s a great eye but it’s hard for him to do that on the ground.

You are stating that "his best place is in the box", like it's a fact, how do you know this?

And they were pretty effective the entire game actually.

Wes seems to be doing pretty well overall in running our D to date. We've had pretty much one really bad quarter (3rd vs Wake), but everything else has been pretty even Steven.
IMO considering BV was the absolute best in the biz, hands down, and he gone, yet our Tiger D is still controlling our opponents very effectively (Saturday's 2nd half shutout was a thing of beauty), and recruiting is still rock solid in that category, I don't see where any type of change would necessarily improve on what's taking place. Based on this guy's career trajectory, hard to imagine it not getting better even as time and the work put in transpires.
