Bowl Question

What is the opinion of the board re bowl participation? Do you believe Clemson should accept whatever bowl invite comes our way and go regardless? If we slip into bowl eligibility by going 6 and 6, would you decline if it was a very low tier bowl in an non desirable location with a low caliber opponent? What say ye?

I think the only benefit is that you get more practices per NCAA***

There’s been 5-7 teams invited before. If it came down to that, I would say stay home and focus on staff changes and transfer portal opportunities. Apparently there’s a belief many upper classmen are going to transfer out so the roster could be very depleted anyhow along with draft opt outs.

Is said bowl in Fla? If yes, then we definitely go! Play all the underclassmen and get them some reps for the opener against Ga.

I doubt we'd decline, but...

you may see a greater number of upper classmen opt-outs.

You always take the bowl game, if not only to get the younger players more practice time. It is also a reward for all the hard work the team has put in.

Take the bowl regardless of record. We have to remember these are still kids, and they chose to come to our University. We should want them to win ball games, of course, but also want them to make fun memories that they'll look back on for their entire lives. I think the bowl festivities are a great thing. I had a buddy who played at App State and some of his fondest memories are of the bowl games. Still sad bowl games don't mean as much as they used to.

We should accept it.

It's extra practice, which we clearly need.
What will be interesting to see is whether or not we have any opt-outs. In the past, the Dabo cult members have praised Dabo and our culture for having no opt-outs like those other schools. Now that we aren't in the playoffs for the third year in a row, it will be interesting to see who actually plays.

I've been critical of Dabo this year so I don't think I fit cult staus. Isn't it a good thing that his players were committed to their team and coach that they didn't opt out? How can that be a bad thing? That reflects well on him and the players. Why criticize that???

Who can ever forget the prestigious 2001 Humanitarian Bowl where Clemson paid for the appearance? My personal favorite was sitting in the rain while getting beat in the 2010 Meineke Car Care Bowl. Instead of Tajh getting the start and much needed experience Dabo rolled Kyle Parker out for his FINAL appearance in a worthless Bowl Game. I thought we were past those days but if we make one, I will probably attend.

We have to win 2 more games before we worry about that, but ask yourself this question, could this team use more practice time? Every coach wants to be in a bowl to be able to spend time looking at players that will be stepping in next year.

as it gives more practice time for the team. Can anyone argue that we don't NEED more practice time?

Bowls help both the Players and Recruiting

Ideally, a Florida Bowl gets us closer to some of the best recruits. The Gator Bowl would be a good landing spot for Clemson.

We have to find a way to win 2 more games first, but the bowl does generate more revenue and give the players more experience…even if the bowl is a joke

I say go to the bowl. One more opportunity to play a good team and show the potential for the team.
