The BCS began in 1998 and it took 14 years to get to

Jun 5, 2012, 10:48 AM

a 4 team playoff. How long will it take to get to an 8 team playoff? That is IF it goes to an 8 team playoff.

It's pretty obvious that the ACC is on the outside looking in.

Can we really afford to stay in the ACC for 14 more years?

Im not sure it will hurt us as far as the playoff goes...

Jun 5, 2012, 11:37 AM

If we go undefeated, we'll finish top-4 even in a weak ACC. I dont see the Big10 and Pac12 going for the "top-4 teams in the country" scenario. They know the Big12 and SEC will monopolize it. I think it will come down to the top-4 BCS conference winners. If we can go undefeated, we'll be top-4. Thats just how I think it'll work out.

Again and again and again...

Jun 5, 2012, 11:40 AM

the fact that we get in if we go undefeated is not necessarily favorable to Clemson.

If there are no undefeated teams and we are 1 of 5 teams with 1 loss and those other 4 teams are from one of the big 4 conferences, we get left out.

What this means is that before the season starts, the ACC teams have to do MORE than teams from other conferences.

That is NOT a level playing field.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The sad truth is you are both right.

Jun 5, 2012, 11:46 AM

Given, different teams with one loss and which conference they are from we may get the call and we may not.

The uncertainty of this entire mess is why I jumped the fence on the ACC two or three weeks ago. Screw the ACC, let em' rot!

Its not, buts it no different than the field right now...

Jun 5, 2012, 11:48 AM [ in reply to Again and again and again... ]

Some people act like the new 4-team playoff is more unfair than the current system but its not. A 1-loss ACC team will never play for a BCS NC. The best we can hope for is a system that wont boot out an undefeated ACC team. Atleast if we go undefeated in a 4-team playoff system, we can get in along with an undefeated SEC and Big12 school, a scenario where we'd be left out now. With that said, its not an even field bc if we lost one game we probably wouldnt get in. But thats whats gonna happen if we choose to stay in the ACC.

Bottom line: if we stay in the ACC...

Jun 5, 2012, 11:51 AM [ in reply to Again and again and again... ]

we will have to go undefeated to even have a chance to play in the MNC game. I honestly think if we had run the table last year, Bama and LSU would have been playing each other anyway. It is what it is. And it sucks.

We can go unbeaten and still get left out our sos is going to hurt us and this is what the big 4 is pushing. I know we were 5th last season and that was because we beat Auburn (SEC/ranked 19th), FSU (preseason #5th), and Va Tech (ranked 11th). Then a couple of losses by the top 10. It helps when you have 2 quality SEC teams on your schedule and a top mid-major. Our sos drops after 2014 when Georgia comes off

An undefeated Clemson team will never fall behind a 1-loss

Jun 5, 2012, 1:31 PM

SEC team for a playoff spot. Even if our SOS is bad, people will vote for Clemson in the polls. We've got a tradition. Everytime it looks like we may be good, people cant wait to put us in the polls. Its just like with FSU and ND. It doesnt take much to get us in the polls and moving up. People remember the power Clemson used to be and theyll jump on board when we're doing well. If we were Maryland, WF, Duke, etc, then we'd have a problem, but I dont see people over looking an undefeated Clemson team.

Here is my scenario for the formation of an 8 team playoff.

Jun 5, 2012, 11:43 AM

While the SEC, B1G, Pac and Big 12 attempt to negotiate their settlement on the selection of four teams to solidify their control over the playoff system they will conclude the best solution is to include their regular season champs and the winner of their conference championship game.

Of course if either of the regular season champs happens to win the CCG then they will allow the ACC to choose one team to enter.

Well, if I sat in their meeting I would propose that solution and stop the bickering.

Since the BCS began in 1998 and it took us 14 years to get to a BCS game playing in the ACC, how long will it take playing in the Big 12?

i believe that playing tougher competition will make us tougher..i firmly believe that u play up or down to your competition, u only have to look to that team in Columbia to see that

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Really...how close were we with Bowden...seems like

Jun 5, 2012, 2:51 PM [ in reply to Re: The BCS began in 1998 and it took 14 years to get to ]

we were always a play or two away.

The gist of my post was that it took 14 years to get to a 4 team playoff of which the ACC will probably rarely be a part of. The only way the ACC would be part of a playoff is if they go to an 8 team playoff...and I don't think the Big 4 will want that.
