Who should I be pulling for, Texas ot Texas A&M? Does either winning or losing help Clemson get into the playoff, if we beat SMU?

We could beat SMU and not make it. But for that to happen, it means the committee ranked one or more Group of Five champion ahead of us. Improbable but not impossible.

Yes - the unlikely scenario for us to beat SMU and not make it is to have Boise as Mountain West champs and Army at 11-1 AAC champs ranked ahead of Clemson as the ACC champ. It is the 5 highest ranked conference champions, so the power 4 don't have auto slots, just most likely a power 4 champ is always going to make the playoff.

No, for Clemson to beat SMU and not make it, the Committee would have to rank TWO group of 5 champs ahead of Clemson. That’s not happening.

Non-factor at this point. We are in if we beat SMU. If Miami had won vs Syracuse and we were looking for an at-large bid, it'd be a different story. An A&M loss would help guarantee fewer SEC teams in.

SEC champion doesn't matter, because either of those teams would be ranked ahead of Clemson. The top 5 ranked conference champions go. Technically, if we win, the only team that could theoretically rain on our parade is Army. So it would be better if Tulane beat them. But it would be exceedingly unlikely for us to beat a top 10 SMU and not be ranked ahead of Army.
