Just don't swim in it. I did, back when I attended Clemson,

and wound up with the Mother of All Ear Infections in both ears. I had let it get extremely bad before I was literally threatened by my roommate, who was tired of listening to me moaning from pain, and wobbled my way over to Redfern. I wound up getting admitted, and getting penicillin shots, in the buttocks, every 8 hours for three + days before they got it under control. I got high range hearing loss in both ears from that episode, permanently.

That is why I never anymore swim in lakes, rivers, or ponds. With all that is put into our lakes, and rivers, it just isn't safe or worth taking the chance of what maybe in our lakes, and rivers these days!!! And I would guess that there is some crap in the lakes and rivers that could kill you, or make you deathly sick. My personal swimming pool, my water hose, or my shower is all the wet I'll ever need!!!

Don’t eat the fish out of Hartwell or stick your head under the water. I got a hellacious ear infection swimming there too while at Clemson.

I swim in Hartwell nearly every weekend during the summer and have for the past 20+ years. Entire family does. We’ve never had one single problem.
Maybe you should learn to dry your ears after swimming? HTH

I think we’re pretty much joking about the swimming. I swam in it last summer and so did my kids. Still wouldn’t eat the fish, tho. It’s a shame. Great fishing spot.

Just don’t eat the fish from Seneca arm or stripers over 16”. Otherwise it’s fine.
I don’t think it’s funny to “joke” about one of Clemson’s greatest assets being dangerous on a public forum. But that’s just me. You do you.

Spud, with the experience you have at fishing, do you ever fish in any of the tournament?

I do not. I am a realtor, and if I get a call from someone

on Friday, who says they just got a contract on their home, and they want to see one of my properties on Saturday or Sunday...I need to meet them at their leisure. I tried fishing tournaments many years ago, but it interfered with my business too much. And honestly, the big tournaments that I fished are full of REALLY good fishermen. I fish about 40 to 50 days a year. Those guys in the 150 plus boat tournaments fish 200 plus days a year. WHen you hear them say the felt a fish runr on their crankbait, they are not kidding.
But, it is fun when you are in a big one, before daybreak and you see all those red and green lights on boats, and then you blast off and run 70 to 80 miles an hour to your first spot!!! It is like running down the hill!!!

That has to be a bummer bc, a man with your fishing skills could probably do pretty good on the fishing tour!!!!
