Who is the next team to jump undefeated FSU?

I say they get jumped two more times, until they are sitting at #5, while remaining undefeated.

I think definitely bama if they beat MSU. But I don't think MSU falls behind FSU. In that scenario, I think it goes Bama, MSU, FSU, TCU. Then TCU eventually jumps FSU if they win out.

FSU goes down to Miami, then hosts Florida. If they win those games, it will be more than enough. If FSU goes undefeated, they will finish no lower than #3.

If they are giving a lot of weight to total body of work, I say it does happen. I don't agree but that's what I think. I forgot about Oregon. I also thought that Oregon was going to jump FSU this week, and they did. A win against Miami will earn FSU the #4 spot next week. A blowout may keep them at #3.
Thanks ACC!

while Florida St. played a lower-tier ACC team.
Sure, it hurts FSU that they don't have the opportunity to play as many quality conference opponents. But not to the point where they'll be shut out of the playoff when undefeated.

what if PAC 12 is overrated?

I mean UCLA was getting smoke pumped up its butt before the season started. They beat the ACC juggernaut Virginia Cavaliers by 8 and then the perennial powerhouse Memphis Tigers by 7. Then the stout Texas Longhorns by 3.

beat UTSA by 3 beat Nevada by 7 beat sub .500 Cal by 4 lost to a mediocre USC team that lost to Boston College
really seems like we're comparing PAC 12 against itself much like we do the SEC, because really hard to measure their body of work outside of the conference. What I'm seeing in the PAC 12 is not terribly impressive.
Oregon, as usual, is head and shoulders above the rest.

One reason it's difficult, much like for the Big 12,
Nov 12, 2014, 9:23 AM

is that the PAC-12 only plays three non-conference games. And most of the teams play 1 FCS game. So you only have 2 or 3 games to work with.
Arizona's feather in their cap is winning at Oregon, obviously. Nevada is a good team, but a 7-point win over them at home is not what I would consider a significant win. A decent win, but not significant.

Speaking of quality or significant wins and losses ... this muddies the waters for Ws and Ls. Auburn lost to an unranked team. Was that a quality loss for Auburn. Or was that a quality win for aTm? There has to be some significant credit given to teams who find a way to get the W, no matter who they are playing. There's no longer an argument in - a win is a win - if the W is judged as a loss because of the opponent.

FSU may not be in the SEC, but they are still media darlings. Besides, the pollsters would not jump a major conference team that is undefeated even with a 1 loss SEC team.

Head to heads don't matter. Total body of work is heavily weighted. FSU in the ACC doesn't stand a chance.

but this makes the poll even more subjective that it was in the past. FSU has had opportunities to slip up and have not. Even in the "weak" ACC its not easy to go undefeated. Oregon lost AT HOME to #14 Arizona. The nod should go to the team with ugly wins against #18 Notre Dame and #19 Clemson.

I agree with everything you speak. But will the committee. If FSU remains undefeated they belong in the top 4. Sadly, I don't have confidence that the committee will see it that way.

Bama might pass them if they beat Miss St, but Miss St would fall below them permanently at that point. Ohio State doesn't have the resume to ever pass them (not even close), TCU has no relevant games left, and i think it's pretty much impossible for Baylor to jump them with only K State left although they might jump TCU.

The winner of Bama MSU will be in the top 4. The loser will drop out no matter what. The fact that TCU made it into the top 4 over a Bama team coming off a win at LSU shows IMO that the committee is not playing into the SEC hand as much as people want to believe and are trying to get the best 4 teams possible. If the current top 4 win out the top 4 teams will not change and it will be MSU, Oregon, FSU, and TCU in the playoff. If Alabama beats MSU then they will move to 3rd, Oregon will be 1, FSU 2 and TCU 4. You can't deny that a team defeating the #1 team in the country should move up. FSU will not be jumped by another 1 loss team and will not drop out of the top 4. The reason they dropped this week was because they again struggled only beating a bad VA by 14 at home when the other teams in the top were all playing and beating other top 10 teams.

FSU still won, though. I agree with you that the loser of bama/msu should drop, but I doubt they do. Bama and msu will be in and FSU will fall out.

We have seen first hand though that this season the fact that you won when playing a far inferior opponent doesn't mean that you will move up in the rankings by default.
As for 2 SEC teams getting in I'm not convinced yet of the conspiracy that 2 SEC teams will be in no matter what. Again no one thought that TCU would jump over Alabama into the top 4 after Alabama beat LSU even though TCU dominated a top 10 K st and they did.

The worst case scenario...
Nov 12, 2014, 11:27 AM
|
|
is if MSU barely loses on the road to Bama. Bama would get credit for beating the #1 team, but MSU wouldn't drop that much, because they almost beat #5 on the road. MSU would possibly hang in at #4, are stay close enough to get back in top four if they beat Ole Miss convincingly. I really hope MSU wins and knocks Bama out of the picture. Or if Bama does win, let it be a blowout. Then, I am pulling for every underdog in the remaining SEC games.

the question then also becomes if fsu loses a regular season game or the acc championship game will ANY acc team be in the 4 team play off? whose body of work would be better, tcu/baylor, ohio state ( but i dont think they only have 1 loss), oregon or others like maybe miss state? there is also a strong chance no acc team is in the play offs if fsu slips up anywhere.

There's not a chance if FSU loses a single game. If Duke beats FSU in the ACCCG, they will not be ranked in the top 4. imo.

If FSU wins out they'll be #1. Unless, MSU also wins out, in which case FSU will be #2.

I don't think FSU will get back into the #2 spot unless Oregon and TCU lose, even if MSU loses to bama.
