was not naming either O'Sullivan or Corbin "coach in waiting" and letting them walk. I will stand by that.

Couldn’t agree more. Best coaches ever to come through here have won championships elsewhere and we have progressively gotten worse.

as far as the better coach

I would have to say O'Sullivan. Corbin has a built in advantage at Vanderbilt with the scholarships. but EVERY major baseball recruit wants to play there, they are like the Alabama of baseball.
I've been a Monte supporter for a while, but if we don't turn it around I think its time for him to go. I haven't given up on the season yet, still a good bit left. Also, You can't compare baseball to basketball here, our baseball program, historically, is MILES BETTER than our basketball program. If we want to keep that tradition alive we have to do something soon.

We have not won a regional this will be 12 years straight. I would say that tradition is a distant memory.

The lack of fundamental baseball that Little Leaguer's have learned is absolutely missing from Clemson baseball. Patience at the plate, sound base running, good defense, and pitching knowledge is gone.

I’ve been a Monte supporter but after 7 years Clemson can do better than this.

If that was possible, would agree with you. But would the HCIW title with Coach Leggett seemingly wanting to coach forever have really kept them here when Vandy, Florida or others came calling?
HCIW is hard to pull off. Only one I can think of where it seemed to work was at FSU with the Bowden to Jimbo transition.

Have you seen the state of FSU football? It’s a direct result of Jimbo despite his one title. To my knowledge it has never worked and would only work if the actual coach was fully committed to retiring in one or two seasons.

They got 5 or so good years out of Jimbo before things went south. Not a result of the HCIW transition, he just lost it and seemingly forgot to recruit/develop OL for some reason.

Yeah - I’ll concede that. But I’ll stand by even when HCIW worked it was cursed.

Never have liked the HCIW. Wasn’t Muschamp given that title at Texas?

Yup. I think we’re in agreement. Hard to think of positive examples.
I guess technically Scheyer is the HCIW for Duke this year. Remains to be seen how that works out.

Corbin left 20 years ago Sully 14

Leggett was Clemson's for 7 more years after Sully left. How long do you suppose a baseball assistant is willing to wait his turn? These guys aren't making 3M a year like Venables was. No one in their right mind woulda passed up an SEC coaching opportunity on the hopes that Leggett was gonna retire.
