They are VERY strict. I mean how could a tragedy like this occur with these laws in place? I'm at a loss for words. I thought gun laws would stop all this.

No sir.
The next gun law will stop it. And then the gun law after that. And then the next gun law. And so on and on til there aren't any guns left.

Shootings like this are rare enough to be newsworthy even for people living nowhere near NYC.

It's fine. My daughter lives there. I never saw the appeal.

She absolutely loves it, which seems to be the prevailing attitude for people her age. I think it's too big a hassle and I don't want to live near that many people.
But yes, crime is historically low nationwide and in NYC, last time I looked.

SC is not only one of the most dangerous states to live in, it is the poorest, takes more from the Fed than it gives back, and a whole bunch of other naughty things Republicans accuse Democrats of. There is a list floating around somewhere.

how does that have anything to do with South Carolina being more dangerous than New York?

Warmer. Cheaper. More land/bigger house for less money.

There’s some moving for political/tax reasons sure, but there are many others too that have nothing to do with politics. Old people retiring somewhere warmer is a time-honored tradition, and now that all the boomers are retiring no surprise there’s an influx.

Isn't really off from the entire nation's. To echo some points here, some cities in SC are more dangerous; Spartanburg has a per capita rate of 46.

I own 6 guns myself so I'm certainly not anti-gun. I think though that posts about how shootings happen in areas with stricter gun laws in an attempt to argue against gun laws is lost on logic for several reasons.
I won't really get into all those reasons right now, but the biggest one to me is arguing against certain laws by pointing out that some will break those laws is a silly point. Why have laws against anything then? What good is a law against murdering people when people still get murdered? Why have laws against rape when people still get raped? Why have laws against speeding when some people will still speed? I could obviously keep going.
I'm not arguing for or against any particular laws or gun regulations, and I have no idea what the laws are in NYC, but I'm just speaking in a general sense over the OP.

I think you just further nailed home the point that gun laws are useless and will only disarm law abiding citizens...

Then why do we have DUI laws? Prostitution laws? Traffic laws? Drug laws? Disorderly conduct laws? They're all useless, right?

I understand your argument @BirminghamTiger but in my opinion laws don't deter a lot of people from committing crime. Some folks are going to break the law no matter what the law and punishment might be. Laws may deter you and me from committing crime but not some people.

Law abiding citizens for the most part obey the law. The lawless do not. Laws are essentially useless for the lawless. Laws are especially useless if these same laws when broken do not result in a severe penalty.
Criminals gonna be criminals.

Flannel hit it. Anti-rape laws do not make me more susceptible to rape or crime. Anti-speeding laws do not make more more susceptible to car accidents or put me at risk in any way. Anti-drug laws do not make me vulnerable to the addicts willing to break the law. Ditto for the rest of the examples.
But when a gun control law prevents me from protecting myself, and in fact makes me more vulnerable to someone willing to break the gun law (for which democrats will not punish anyone anyway, which exacerbates the situation) then it's a problem.
Surely you see the difference here?
