I've got a parking spot for next season secured and would like to bring a TV along for some of the later games. Any advice on cost effectiveness (renting vs buying generator) (Dish vs OTA TV, is streaming an option?)

If you don't want to incur the cost of a generator....

I would suggest using a deep cycle marine battery and a power inverter. It works just as well, it's certainly more quiet, it's less expensive, and you don't have to pack any gasoline.

One caveat to this recommendation....

I would suggest taking two marine batteries and two inverters just in case one of them fails.

A reliable Duracell or Energizer marine battery from Sam's cost less than $75. You can easily find a 500 watt power inverter for less than $30.00.
Depending upon what type of generator you buy, a 500 to 1000 watt portable generator inverter will run you in excess of $500. The Honda's and Yamaha's are two to four times that.

Att and Verizon work well. T-Mobile doesn't work at all there. Source: roommate screaming "Fck you T-Mobile" every other day.

I dunno either way.
It's Wal-Mart. By the stuff. Try it out. If you don't like it, return it a year later.

You have a lot off options nowadays.

Depends on what you want to power. If you want to run tv, satellite box, 2 blenders, xbox, microwave and foot massager you will need a generator. Please bUy a Yamaha or Honda. Your neighbors will thank you.
If you just want to watch tv.. the cheapest and easiest route is your phone and a portable battery jumper.
I didn't trust my generator down in Miami so I left at home for the Orange bowl and took a chance on my phone. It was the first time I tried so I was a bit worried. In the end it worked great.
I have a galaxy s3 and tmobile. I have espn app on my phone. My tmobile plan had 2 gb of data at 4glte and then unlimited at like 2g.
I bought a $10 hdmi chord for my phone to hook up to a 32 inch LED tv.
I also have an old relatively cheap ($80) portable battery jumper and a n even older cheap ac converter ($10). Today you can get way better stuff.
I plugged all that together and watched the fsu game before the Orange bowl and half the msu game before we packed up and left. I dunno how long it would have lasted.

TNet at the tailgate without long pauses. ESPN app will take up to 5 minutes to refresh, if at all. We've even tried our hotspot...same results.

I agree. We park right beside the stadium and have verizon and the service before, during, and after the games absolutely sucks.

The herps on gamedays.
If you don't have dish or direct. . Do you know some one who does? Some one you trust and won't hamstring you?
If so, you can get a dish and stand cheap off the internet. Heck I see them lying on the side of the rd in my neighborhood from time to time. Once you have your own dish borrow your neighbor's satellite box.
Get a dish pointing app on your phone. First time may take awhile but once you know the general direction you will Get up and running faster and faster.

During games you can't even get most texts. Forget trying to web browse. Can't get scores off of the ESPN app.

FWIW...I have the tailgater satellite from Dish with the no contract service. So come August, I will turn the service back on and then stop it after USC. I have DirecTV at home but none of my boxes were portable although some are. I have a Briggs and Stratton generator that cost a couple hundred less than the Honda but is just as quiet.

Based on my experience with generators (not tailgating, but power for small trailers) get a Honda eu2000i. They are whisper quiet and very portable. Again, just my limited experience and observations.

sunflower seeds is about $30.00. Hook up to an old crank phone with stretched panty hose for a belt and watch away. 50# bag of sunflower seeds is $20.00 and a threadmill at the flea market about $10.00. Get the panty hose out of the laundry w/o your wife(?) looking....
Old E-5 trick....
