Are we no longer going after the QB from West Virginia?

Have we backed off of that kid through the portal or is that a back up plan if these other two kids sign major-league baseball contracts? Personally I think we need this kid even if we get that good quarterback out of high school. Those kids have no experience. The kid that played at West Virginia has one year of eligibility left and he could step right in and be a solid back up for the 2021 season. I love that Dabo is our coach, but he’s hurting himself and the team with his stubbornness over this issue. Dabo himself has said the game is always changing and you have to change with the game. I don’t see us winning more championships moving forward if Dabo doesn’t start using the portal in some limited capacity as well as making some hard decisions regarding the OL coaching staff and recruiting.

I'll start with the OL coaching. Robbie Caldwell has done a great job with recruits not highly ranked. You will see a big change with the OL this year and next because now he has better players out of the gate. Also bringing in Thomas Austin to help and most likely be our next OL coach was a great move by Dabo. As far as the back up QB I think it hinges on Bubba Chandler coming on campus versus MLB and the transfer QB is most likely deciding if he wants to play another year or keep working. There is a reason why he went into the work force and decided not to play another year out of the gate. I feel if Chandler comes to Clemson, and I think he wants to, he was a hot baseball prospect committed to Georgia just for baseball but switched to Clemson to play both. I think he wants to give football at least a one year chance. If he goes pro I think the transfer QB comes because of the chance to play at Clemson and get championship. Have to wait until June to find out. I think we can win with Helms also.

It’s amazing that you don’t trust the only coach in the last 30 years who elevated a good, non blue blood football program to elite status and kept it there with a hint of wrongdoing.

I do trust Dabo, but you are a fool if you don’t recognize how much the portal has changed college football in the last few years. And you are blind if you don’t recognize the way the last two seasons have ended. College football has been radically changed in the last few years. Ohio State stopped us into the dirt in our last game and their two bast players on the field came from the transfer portal.
I love when people can’t be open minded and objective and lash out at anyone that has the slightest bit of criticism. I assure you Dabo is the most critical of the program, but he also can be extremely stubborn and anyone that denies that is simply being foolish. Dabo is not perfect. The man does not walk on water despite what some of you think. Even the Almighty Nick Saban understands the game is changing and has made radical changes to how he runs his program.
Only children get angry when someone is critical. I’m not bashing Clemson or the football program or Dabo. It’s called constructive criticism! It’s called objectivity. Sadly most of the folks on here do not have it!
It’s also comical and surreal the way some of you make excuses and live in absolute denial of how bad our offensive line has been for decades! We haven’t had a dominant OL since the early 90s. I’m sorry but our coaching and recruiting on the OL has been mediocre at best.

When you see the word “but” in a sentence you can disregard anything before the word. Either you trust Dabo to do what’s best for the team or you don’t. In your case you seem to think you know better than he does so good for you.

If you only had this same energy in 2016 and 2018..

My God people like you are simple minded. If you can’t see over the last two years that the transfer rules as well as name image and likeness and the transfer portal are radically changing the game then I’m sorry I can’t help you. If being slapped in the face by a wet fish doesn’t wake you up nothing will. Keep on living in your little fantasy world that thinks that Dabo can keep being stubborn and not make any changes And that our recruiting alone is going to win championships. Alabama under Nick Saban is the only program that can win championships on recruiting alone. Ohio State beat us last year because of the transfer portal. Their two best players were transfers. If you don’t get that you are living in denial. And Ohio State out recruits us most years. Ohio State has more talent. All you have to do is look at the NFL draft to know that. And they are using the portal to get better. So keep living in a fantasy world and thinking you’re smart, but you are in denial my friend!

You are correct. The portal is really ideal for situations like this. Let's be honest, other than depth we were in trouble if DJ went down before Taisun got injured. Taisun was depth that's it. In today's game more 1 or 2 four or 5 stars QBs is not happening. That's why finding a 3 star to develop is critical. The Chase Brice kind of guy. He was a 4 star but really a 3 until he developed here. That what I think the game is going forward. So yes we need another qb if the Chandler kid doesn't come!

The only way that I think we should keep Dabo is if he hires lowcntry tiger as his recruiting cord.

Go on any other Clemson forum and people have civil adult conversations. Tiger net is where you find a perfect example of American society. The far right Christian fundamentalists and the far left radical brainwashed progressives and a whole lot of Clemson fundamentalists that worship The cult of Dabo in between and how dare anyone have even the slightest bit of rational objective constructive criticism! Dabo can walk on water and anyone who says otherwise should be banished! Unfortunately the people that run this board have let a handful of psychotic inmates run the asylum for years! Anyone that steps outside of the lines gets rabidly attacked and when they fight back they tend to be the ones that get banned. If you want real serious and objective conversation, especially regarding football you will have to go to one of the other boards.

1) the op is too wordy 2) he calls every player “kid” as he is too lazy to learn their names 3) he assumes way too many things which are incorrect

1. It’s a complex topic with a lot of nuance that people like you don’t get! Because you’re too lazy!
2. They are kids and their names don’t matter because it’s about the bigger picture and the situation and scenario scenario. Not the individuals.
3. My assumptions are not incorrect. They are based on facts.

1) you want respect yet you call us fools if we don’t agree 2) using names is a sign of respect and do matter 3) your assumptions are indeed wrong. For example, as far as anyone knows we are still recruiting a QB 4) Without DJ staying there is no natty

He's probably only being considered if one or both Chandler/Taylor go MLB. Might not hear anything until July.

If DJ goes down, we are sunk. Simple as that. No player in

in the transfer portal is going to be good enough to keep Clemson in CFP contention. If he’s that good, he’s not transferring to Clemson to sit behind DJ and compete with Hunter Helms for 2nd team.
Bringing in a scrub transfer QB just as some sort of ill-conceived insurance policy is just a waste of effort and a slap in the face of a guy like Helms who has skills and is working his butt off.
If we lose DJ for any length of time, we’re done as a CFP contender.

LOL I love people like you that think everybody in the portal is a scrub. You are so blinded by your worshiping of Dabo and your fixation on recruiting alone while ignoring the way the game is evolving and ignoring how critical the portal has been. LSU kicked our ### with players out the portal. Ohio State kicked our ### with players out the portal. To say that only scrubs come from the portal is to be completely divorced from reality and the facts!
Did you see our game against LSU? Did you see our last game against Ohio State? You do realize that most of the stars on both of those teams came out of the transfer portal!
Watch a little Packer and Durham or listen to a little sports radio or do a little reading online and listen to some experts and educate yourself!

Nobody said everyone in the portal is a scrub so you are lying to support your flawed narrative. Most folks are in the portal to find playing time. Not many QBs in the portal lined up to ride the pine behind DJ. Also not looking for a younger QB as we have Cade for that role. So Mr. Know-it-all due to watching tv, who in the portal fills the need AND is willing to be a backup?

I think for Dabo to break his trend and take someone

out of the portal, two things would have to be true.
A) IT would have to be a kid that we recruited initially and thought very highly of.
B) A lot would depend on the program the kid is transferring out of, and the specific reasons for the transfer. I do not believe he would touch a kid under any circumstances that had any hint of impropriety either in recruiting, or in his behavior at his previous school. Dabo tries to cull personality problem children out of the recruiting mix for Clemson. I can't see any circumstance where he would try to rehabilitate someone elses problem child.
