Are there any other big time schools that give coaches

Mar 22, 2022, 8:24 PM

7 and 13 years, when they haven't won anything and are actually getting worse? Must be nice to land the job at Clemson, no accountability and multi-million dollar salary.

I said this before. Are a laughing stock of power 5 schools in putting up so long with mediocre results...

The failings in baseball are unacceptable. No matter how aggravated our fanbase was, we were still respected within the world of college baseball before firing Leggett. Back to back Hall of Fame coaches. Now we’re not only terrible we’re persona non grata within the college baseball fraternity.

I don't follow your baseball logic. The last 5 Leggett seasons we didn't make it out of the Regional and Lee's first 4 seasons were also losses in Regionals. Lee's 5th year was COVID and we were 14-3 when the season ended. Last year was not good but overall, very similar to Leggett.

Is there any program at Clemson you don’t want to see in the toilet? Leggett failed to make the NCAA once in his entire tenure. In 6 seasons Lee has matched that accomplishment, had the most lopsided home loss ever, and had the first losing season in over 50 years. So no, there is no comparison in any way to Leggett’s tenure.

It’s always amazing the crap people post representing it as the truth. Early in his career JL had some good teams but the last few years his teams were very average . He was also arrogant and entitled where he would not make changes requested by he AD so he got the boot.

Much like Bobby Bowden (but without the titles) JL had not been able to maintain the competitiveness of the program. He was respected nationally but had ticked off many in state HS coaches with his arrogance

Did your mother tell you she didn't care what other kids do? We don't care what other schools do. By the way, we are Power 5 by affiliation and football, not basketball.

I don't know the exact number of years, but check out Leonard Hamilton's record at FSU.

Just looked it up.

1. Took him 7 years to get to NCAA.
2. Next four years made NCAA/ Lost in first round twice, second round once, third round once.
3. Didn't make tourney next four years.
4. Made tourney next 3 years.
5. Missed, made, missed.

Been HC for 20 seasons. Made tourney 8 times. One appearance in Elite 8.

He’s made the tourney 8 of the last 13 years. Brad has been 3 times and, unlike Hamilton, Brad took over a tourney ready program. If Brad had made 8 tourneys he’d already have the court named after him.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not defending Brownell. Someone asked a question. I tried to give another coach with a similar start to his career. Not saying they are equal. Not saying Brownell should or should not be fired. I don't follow NCAA basketball in general, much less Clemson specifically, to make a comment.

30 years ago, before the 1-and-done guys took over big time college hoops, I followed hoops as closely, or even moreso, than I followed football. I would have had a much more educated opinion back then. Today, I'm not sure I could name 6 head coaches in the ACC.

You may not have noticed but Clemson is not a big time basketball school. Historically we are similar in basketball to coot football meaning a doormat if the conference. We can change that but will take a lot more than a new HC

David Cutcliffe at Duke for one.

Clawson at Wake could kinda be in that group. He regressed the previous Year before having his good year. Peahead would qualify

Obviously there is the Doeren example but that applies to any NC State coach but they rarely last more than 7 years.

Then you had Bill Snyder, it took him about 14 years to win anything. Dickey before him would qualify.

Mike Riley at Oregon State.

IDK, see a pattern. And those are just football examples....
