Both but neither. Florida State had the best offense in the country and our defense shut them down so I will go with the defense having heard enough and finally playing with emotion and focus. What could have been?

To be honest replacing the stickum in the FSU WR room with lard was an absolutely masterful tactic by coach Allen

Our defense played ok if FSU makes some plays we could easily have lost drop passes killed them

Duh …. Part of our defensive game plan was for them dropping passes. We were double covering the players that we knew could catch the ball.;)

Scheme. Players are constantly out of position.

I think its the scheme to the extent the players are struggling to fully understand it or the new terminology. I wouldn't say lack of talent but I do believe something has changed with our strength & conditioning. The entire defense looks slow and weak. The D looked better against FSU though a good amount of their success was more FSU failures than anything our D did.

Yes yes yes yes yes yes and I keep telling everybody it’s strength conditioning and equipment management that’s hurting Clemson more than anything….. offense and defense look weak and slow

It appears the problem with the defense is the lack of speed at the LB & Safety position. Not just talking about straight ahead speed. Sideline to sideline speed and athleticism. This is not just a scheme issue. Speed is something you can't coach or develop. You have to recruit speed. Fot some reason it appears this has not been a priority in the past few recruiting classes.

Ricardo Jones is very fast.

Hanifin is fast enough; I’d wager that he is as fast as RJ Mickens.

We have no LB that is as fast as Barrett Carter, yet Kobe McCloud and Sammy Brown are both very fast.

Our top four DEs are all fast. Three of those four (Denhoff, Lawson, and Parker) are the same as what we had last year, when our overall DE production was similar to what they’ve accomplished this year.

(*). Overall, our defense was noticeably better last year.

Don’t tell me that the loss of Barrett Carter has made THAT much of a difference in team speed on defense. Our biggest problem has been that our LBs are not in sync with the DBs and DEs, and that our Safeties are not in sync with anyone.

This is a Tom Allen problem.

100% correct! this defense has no speed at all. the LBs are the slowest Clemson has ever seen and it is killing this defense.

I think there are two predominant reasons.

1. MAJOR - Poor play of secondary due primarily to poor coaching.

2. SECONDARY - Not elite level talent at linebacker (except for Sammy Brown).

Not sure about elite level LB. I agree Woodazz, while a great Tiger, just doesn’t possess the physical skills, but the problem is we don’t know what’s behind him because the coaches haven’t played anyone else.

Is Sammy Brown elite how many poor angles out of position plays he's made.Sammy Brown is not an elite LB. Elite is Anthony Simmons Keith Adams Leroy Hill Wayne Simmons Levon Kirkland.

Agreed on Sammy Brown not being elite.
He seems to struggle in the open field and takes bad angles. Maybe he will have a great junior year.

He is a running back playing LB. I feel like he is still learning the position. Sammy has all world talent but had to gain more experience at the position.

Defensive issues
1. The secondary, is the most glaring issue. Micky conn surely will be gone after this season. They are so bad.
2. The defensive line has been lazy, mainly because they are making the $$$. It hasn’t seemed like Parker or Woods have even cared about playing football. They look like Myles Murphy did. Just lazy, not 110% effort
3. Some of Allan’s calls have been bad. We aren’t pressuring near as much as we did under Brent/dough boy.
