Apart from OL improvement, what specific thing would improve our offensive efficacy the most?

My vote is better route running by WRs.
Many other nits to pick, of course, but I have to believe this particular detail would send improvement ripples through almost all the other offensive choke points, including DJ’s accuracy inconsistencies and opposing defensive schemes.
What say you’ns?

There are a handful of things...

The OL needs to block better.
The WR's need to run better routes and actually catch the ball.
DJ need to work on his accuracy throwing touch passes.
It seems like the game is still moving 1,000 MPH for DJ, so the coaches need to slow it down for him by calling plays that don't require him to think too much.
Lastly, eliminate the boneheaded unforced errors/penalties.

I just think the WR play has the potential to influence all other factors the most, second only to OL improvement.
Hoping to see both in spades tomorrow night.

Wr play can definitely improve. Specifically effort.

Except for our our first game, I’ve seen several receivers throughout the game that don’t even finish running their routes and the wr blocking has been really scarce. I want to see players take some pride and give their all. Trying your best and failing is one thing but not giving effort and seeing poor results it another.

Emergence of a true slot receiver. Would allow Ross to move back outside. Domino effect akin to Rayburn playing center to move Bockhurst back to guard, etc.

Trouble is the coaches haven’t been comfortable leaving the position to anyone but Ross so far.

Even Taylor, prior to injury, was apparently not being actively groomed to take over the role from Ross…

Welp, that’s just silly. It’s almost like you just need a body; not even production. If you have a guy there, they have to cover them. And then you still get the upside of moving Ross. Could even - heaven forbid - try to use a tight end that can block and make an occasional catch. But you’re 100% right; not having someone else groomed severely limits the upside.

DJ's footwork and mechanics.

We have a number of concerns, but if he could just improve his footwork and mechanics, we would see better accuracy in the passing game and in his effectiveness in the running game. His improved accuracy would slow the game down for him and allow him to process the game better and make better decisions.

I’d like to see them move DJ out of the pocket. Seems he’s made some of his best throws this year when he is on the run and would give the receivers a little more time to get open. And DJ could run if no one is open.

I agree. DJ needs to roll out more. I believe he will be more comfortable and still the option to run. That, in the addition to, the WRs doing their jobs every play from blocking and finishing their routes.

1) Spread the field more widely to enable our receivers with their speed to get open more with their routes. 2) Incorporate more mis-direction running plays to take advantage of teams who are playing more 7-8 players at the line of scrimmage who are over-reacting to our first direction moves 3) Be it along the sidelines or through the center of the field run more double moves to get our receivers open for the long throws 4) Utilize more quick short slant routes for our receivers and include our tight ends in such plays 5) Teams know our play-calling tendencies so lets mix up our play-calling much more to break that 6) Lets involve more of our receivers and tight ends in plays rather than just our two deep mentality 7) Give DJ more run/pass options in more varied locations 8) Lets get four running backs in the games - we have four good ones, lets use them in wearing down defenses
GO TIGERS - BREAK OUT THIS WEEK COMING!!!!

I disagree with the Tempo comment. You cant run tempo unless you are actually executing. All you do then is give the ball back without the defense even getting a short break. Once the line starts giving some holes to run through and more that 2 seconds to throw THEN you can start running tempo. To answer the original question, play calling. With WR separation very closely behind. Though I think the separation issue would drop a bit with time to throw. DJ's touch would definitely be high on the list too with his propensity to rifle arm passes from short range.

I agree with what others are saying but I wanna see up tempo offense as well. Clemson doesn’t seem to care about getting a matchup they like and running a hurry up to keep that player or players in the field. I get they like to swap players A LOT but if one guy is beating the absolute dog ?? out of another guy then keep it up!
