Anyone of you use the Honeywell Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat?

Mar 17, 2015, 7:55 AM

We got the basic thermostat installed when we built the house. Nothing programmable, etc. We had a programmable one at the old house and LOVED it (and depended on it). I cannot always remember to adjust the temp before leaving for work. I have looked at the Nest and I am looking at these. Anyone use one? How easy is it to install a new thermostat? I have never done one. I assume youtube videos and xhamster videos will help me finger it out.

Srs, what makes Nest so superior to the Honeywell one?

Mar 17, 2015, 9:28 AM [ in reply to Nest. We're not poors.*** ]

I was looking at both of them the other week, seems like both kind of do the same thing that I really want which is to adjust the temperature via Smartphone while I'm out but the Honeywell looked kind of cool to me because it had a lot more going on the screen. Nest pretty much only has the temperature displayed.

Is it because the Nest has the technology to "predict" your temperature habits?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well, the Nest is more expensive, it is like the Ferragamo

Mar 17, 2015, 9:29 AM

of Thermostats. The Honeywell is more of the Sperry of Thermostats. They do the same thing, and both work fine, but if you want your friends to go "look at that assswhole spending stupid money on dumb shiz that he doesn't need" then you get the Nest. Also, if you need more than one, they apparently talk to each other. I don't think I need more than one.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I probably only need one

Mar 17, 2015, 9:35 AM

I have two units, butt one of them is a fairly small unit just for the master bedroom (bedroom was added on to house).

I do want to get one for the unit that controls the temp for the rest of the house, the thermostat is like 30 years old and I can't figure out how to program it

honeywell HAS a Nest doppelganger

Mar 17, 2015, 9:30 AM [ in reply to Srs, what makes Nest so superior to the Honeywell one? ]

i think part of it is compatibility with other systems, should you have or want to implement any smart-home stuffs

Nest Does learning better, meaning it'll save you money.

Nest just did an upgrade in november that also makes it even more efficient.

Pressing the ring on the nest will give you all the info now, as well.

would save me the cost of the Nest in the first year. This is a no-brainer. Do you see this type of savings 4 SRS?

I saw that % savings on the energy bill, butt

we bought 4 nests for the 4 zones in the house.

Re: Anyone of you use the Honeywell Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat?

Mar 17, 2015, 8:28 AM

I don't see the point of $250 for NEST when the $100 Honeywell from Lowes has the same or more functionality. With 2 thermostats, that $300 to spend on FUNNER things.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This is what led me to this one. A similar one to the one

Mar 17, 2015, 8:33 AM

in my old house would be $145. This one is $189 and I can control it with my phone if I need to (leave on vacation, forget to change the settings). The nest would be even more, and it doesn't just let you set it and forget it...you have to train it to do what you want*. #### that.

*This may or may not be true.

Mar 17, 2015, 8:32 AM

be changed via smartphone so I don't have to get out of bed. Just take a pic of the control wires in case you eff up the original. If I can do the install, you should be able to.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I can't remember the last time I touched the therrmostat

Mar 17, 2015, 8:32 AM

gotta be close to a year ago since I've even looked a it.

I just have the basic programmable from Lowes, about a $50-60 one. Can't remember model; I do know screen turns red or blue depending on if heat or AC is on. Self-sufficient little booger, I do know that.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'd like to make a suggestion, if you'll allow me.

Mar 17, 2015, 8:43 AM

Have you tried a rectal thermometer? I think it might be exactly what you're looking for!
