Anyone else caught in the I-26 west traffic yesterday afternoon!

Coming from the Lowcountry on Friday & spending the night in Greenville hotel to avoid the Saturday noon GameDay traffic snarl .
Well, two separate wrecks caused miles of backup and well over an hour in crawling bumper-to-bumper traffic.
No SC Patrol directing traffic at the wrecks and did I mention the lane changing idiots.
Leaving now for the game so today should be better!

That stretch of interstate is a disaster. The construction makes it extremely dangerous in several locations.

Just an every day reason to avoid the Columbia area. Maybe one day construction will be over but idiots will always be driving.

And the 💩 I see.
What really ticks me off is people here now have started passing congestion traffic by riding on the shoulders. Traffic caused BY WRECKS! So you’ll see an ambulance drive by then a Toyota Camry and a Dodge Ram and a work van after that. What are you people thinking?!? So inconsiderate!

Yes, thanks for reminding me of how I lost 1.5 hours of my life last night in traffic. I26 is a disgrace.

I came through there from TN to SC at 10pm about a month ago. The interstate was CLOSED starting at the Outlet Mall and all the way past Hendersonville. They were zig-zagging traffic across the interstate. It was a total disaster. Tractor trailers having to go through gears made it impossible to get through any lights in downtown Hendersonville. Stop after stop after stop.
If they were going to put interstate traffic through downtown, they should have at least given up the stoplights. And they could have informed earlier on the route so you could explore options. I could have cut across the mountains on 276...if I had known.
I looked it up when I returned home and learned it was a multi-night construction operation.

Because we had the lowest gas tax in the country for decades. Our gas tax will rise slowly over then next few years

SC raised gas taxes 12 cents a gallon between 2017 and 2023 but nada. Where did that money go? I-26 is part of the Federal system which explains the waste.

We travelled from charleston to greenville fri afternoon, arriving in greenville at 2 pm. No issues.

I heard it was a mess!
We were leaving North Myrtle yesterday afternoon around 5:30 but waze was showing the drive would be 5 hours and 50 minutes. We decided to grab dinner, walk around some shops, and ended up leaving late last night. The wrecks were cleared by then and we had no traffic.

Try traveling I64 or I75. Have never been on those 2 interstates without miles of stopped traffic. If you want some real backups try driving in the Chicago area. Nothing to sit for hours and barely move. I will take those backups in SC anytime over the mess around Chicago.
