Who could blame him? He could be sitting next to Saban on Saturdays with a lot less stress and still making big bucks.

I think he would rather step down than change his ways. College football is broken and he knows it.

Who could blame him? The game has passed him by. He is obviously frustrated and not happy right now and unless he changes a lotsa things, I don't see a way out for him. Sad. Very hard to watch. I love the man and all he stands for.

I would not be surprised to see him step down within the next couple of years, or perhaps transition into a new position within the athletic department. Not from pressure, but I think he is discouraged by the state of college football. Saban got out, Dabo stayed in and fought the good fight, but it’s a losing cause at this point. College football has changed forever. Whether it’s for the good or the bad, time will tell.

No. He will run us down just enough to a place we don’t recover that way he can say it was all him….. aside from Danny Ford he will be the only elite coach and he wants that

The Syracuse game will determine our season. If we lose this one, the season is over. We will be laughed by all of the sports world and we will be viewed as the team who refused to use the transfer portal and it bit us in the butt. Very important game in my opinion. If this team doesn't get fired up for this game, then we have some lame players.

I am on the fence about that. I think the game has passed him by and he will have to make major changes to fix the problems. Does he want to keep making changes? At what point is college football just not the same game as it once was? He has made major changes over the last few years that nobody expected him to make (fully embracing NIL, using the portal, firing personal friends, firing coaches after 1 year, etc.) but he could go make 7 figures and sit on a panel on College Gameday or one of these other college football shows like Saban and be just fine. So I wouldn't blame him for leaving either.

He is not going to make 11 million dollars a year anywhere else, not even close. Maybe if he had one year left in his contract, but not 60 million dollars left to put in the bank and if he is fired he still gets it all. So, the smart thing to do is stay and get the 60 million or be fired and get the 60 million. But he is not going to be fired, and he knows it. With three young sons who have their futures ahead of them and grandchildren in the future, who would not want the 60 million to secure them for generations? 60 million invested at a conservative 7% return would generate 4.2 million a year income. Only a fool would throw that away. And Dabo is no fool.

So he's going to run the program into the ground? Yeah, maybe, but he's also been making millions for 15 years. He's probably made upwards of $100 million in his career, if he is just fed up and tired of coaching (not saying he is) he's not going to burn himself out and for a paycheck.
Coaches also never get to the last years of their contract for recruiting purposes. Clemson is going to have to buy him out or he's going to retire and leave money on the table at some point, whether that's in 2 years or 12 years.

If he hasn’t already made enough money to set himself and his kids and potential grandkids for life then he never will. It isn’t always about money.

I think he is very frustrated by the current landscape of college football. I also think losing is taking a toll on him. But I do not see him walking away, especially leaving that kind of generational wealth on the table.

Coach Swinney could loose all the remaining games this season and still be retained by the University. Swinney owns Clemson and he knows it. Whoever extended Swinney's contract either 2021 or 2022 did Clemson University a great disservice.

like Saban did. He’ll be a Joe Paterno/Bobby Bowden kind of guy. Make it ugly. A legend in his own mind making 11.5 M per year. It’s all about Dabo and all of his friends and family making a living off the state of SC. What other job is he going to find for that money where he can get on front of a microphone or camera and pontificate all day long. No checks and balances on his kingdom and as much of a Graham Neff fan as I am I don’t think he has the cajones to rein him in either. Oh well, I enjoyed 3 National Championships in my 71 years so am comfortable for the next 10 years of Tommy West/Ken Hatfield/Red Parker/Hootie Ingram football (I sat through every one of them, me and all 35,000 of my fellow loyal fans). Just sad to watch Dabo slowly ruin a wonderful legacy that he built for himself.

I think what gets missed in all of this is that taking fan scrutiny is a job requirement, and not this big, scary thing that coaches tremble over. He is paid 11.5M/yr. in part, to deal with the pressure and not really let that affect him.
Some on here seem to think it makes a difference, but I think we see by his demeanor, it really doesn't.

But it does seem bother him . . .

I don't mean to say he's trembling and losing sleep over it, or that he's preoccupied with it moment-to-moment. But for years, when the criticism gets hot, he's not infrequently had this reflexively bristling, defensive attitude towards even the mildest and most even-keeled criticism (prime example in '22). All the "how things were before I got here" rants, all the stock distractive phrases to deflect from the substance of even legitimate points of criticism . . . he'll juxtapose all that with this sort of shrugging "aw shucks, it don't bother me," posture, right after spelling out exactly what's bothering him.
Tyler from Spartanburg wasn't diplomatic or respectful, and many others are the same, so it's not like there aren't over-the-top critics That Coach has a legitimate gripe with. And so on some level, it's understandable that Dabo would bristle a bit in certain cases. In other cases, not so much. But it doesn't appear at all that he's simply letting it roll off of his back.

which collectively and passively make more than Dabo's 11 million dollar salary. He and the family are doing OK financially with or without the salary. When the stock market has a great day, Swinney can easily be making $1M a day. Good for him. He's raised much more than that for Clemson University, organizations and the town over the past decade of winning and boom times. Now lets get the football team back to work.

It won't be long, I don't think he'll do another extension. Like Saban, he has to know this new era of college football has passed him by and he's never going to fully adjust to it.
