You are both idiots. Venables told a recruit that you are committed to the school not a coach. Venables is as honorable as they come in this profession. I’m sure Dabo was aware of the possibility but the fact that Venables is still out there representing the brand speaks volumes for Dabo’s faith in him as a person and Venables appreciation for Clemson. Take your trash somewhere else.

If I work for a university as a coach, I will give my all to work for that university until I get on the plane to leave. Heck, Dabo may have wanted to go with him just to discuss the situation and to let Brent know there are no hard feelings should he decide to take the job. That’s what friends do! It’s called being gentlemen and class!

“Laptops without batteries” is the analogy I use. As long as everything is going great, you guys love our coaches. But even after years of amazing service and exemplary character, the second you don’t KNOW that everything is on the up-and-up…the second the cord is disconnected…you’ll call our coaches “slimy”. Or stupid. Or stubborn. Or too nepotistic. There’s no charge even after being plugged in for a decade.
Anyway, I’d hate to have friends like that. Or coworkers. Or teammates.
Coach V, and Dabo, deserve…and have earned…the benefit of the doubt from we fans. Does anyone really think that BV would be sneaky about this stuff? That Dabo didn’t know everything going on and blessed it? That we were as transparent as possible with recruits?
What must it take to build an ounce of credibility with you guys?

Step back and think about it:
If what you posted is true, then most years he would not have been allowed to recruit. He has been sought after year after year.
You don’t stop what you’re doing when someone reaches out to you about an employment possibility. You keep going through your routine: The one that has made you successful and in high demand.
Only the last 12- 24 hours, has BV emerged as the likely candidate. There was certainly no need to essentially “suspend” him from his duties a week ago: He was a name in a hat full of candidates.

gives Clemson notice he is expected to carry out all his duties as a Clemson coach which is what he has been doing. I don’t interview with other companies and stop working for the company Im with just because something might happen. Once an offer comes down, I still work for that company doing my best until I agree to accept and things are square on both sides. Then I give proper notice and fulfill to the best of my ability the remaining duties they want me to carry out - that’s usually 2 weeks in most cases but there could be reasons like the coaching profession where the relationship is terminated upon notice - no bar feelings that’s just the way it works.

Any fan that slanders the greatest coordinator in the history of this program should be ashamed of themselves… this is a guy that helped deliver 2 national championships, 6 straight CFP appearances, countless ACC crowns, and more to Clemson. I get OP is mad but I’d really hoped our fan base would respond in a better way than this. If you go back and read the bits that David Hale relayed from the Keon Sabb visit, what BV told him was cryptic but fine. And it was hardly the full transcript.
I think at that point (Sabb visit), and during this entire week of recruiting, Venables and Dabo knew BV was in the running for the OU head coach job. I also think BV was not first choice, and was likely even 3rd/4th choice. I don’t mean anything disparaging by this, I just think that was the reality. If he’d been OU’s first choice, the deal would’ve long been done.
If you’re in BV’s seat and it’s been relayed to you by OU or your agent that, you’re in the running but not first option for a head coaching job, what choice do you have but to continue doing your current job as best you can, being as transparent as you can, and then communicating with the players if/when something happens? What was the better alternative? Venables doesn’t go on the recruiting trips? What if OU gets their first, second option or whoever was ahead of him in the search? He just sat around in purgatory only to end up back in his current role? That wouldn’t have made any sense and absolutely would’ve churned up more anxiety and drama.
For any Clemson fan out there, for your own sanity, please stop thinking of the worst possible scenario for this recruiting trip that Venables was on that you think could be slimy, dishonest or nefarious. I’m a fan of Brent Venables no matter what happens here. Hope he continues to be successful and hope if he goes to OU we beat them in a home/home series or playoff game. He’s a Clemson man. Give him some respect as he grows his career. Go Tigers!

I think everything you stated is correct. Who interviews for a job and then stops working? Lol. Its comical at best that people think it was some grand conspiracy. You're also probably 100% correct that he wasn't the first choice. Their AD stated clearly that there were people they were interested in that had CCG on Saturday. When Fickel and Aranda turned them down, and the UGA DC layed an egg (lol) the job rolled to BV. You can almost see it in how extatic he is in these videos already.
What will be interesting going forward is if he tries to steal anything away from Dabo. Whether it be coaches, recruits, etc. This is something Nick Saban has been very animated about in the past saying "Its fine if you want to take a head coaching position, but STOP coming back to Alabama and stealing my staff."
Very telling imo. If BC tries to do Clemson dirty, a lot of goodwill will evaporate. We'll see how it goes.

Happy for Bret but sad for US. My concern is the mindset of the coming in that he recruited. Some came To play in his defense. I hope they don't bail on us before signing day. I'm sure Dabo will make a great pick to replace him, maybe even before the bowl game.

From his statement to Keon Sabb it sounded like he was being honest with them, so I am sure that he was being honest with Dabo. The whole time it seemed to me like if it was offered then he would probably go, but how sure was anybody that the offer would come?
